About this Job:
This position is part of a Career Progression Group (CPG) which provides for a gradual progression from Engineer Intern Applicant thru Engineer 5 as the employee gains experience and proficiency. Incumbent is responsible for developing their engineering skills in the design, plan preparation, and construction inspection of complex electrical systems for movable bridges, roadway lighting, and building facilities. The job duties and responsibilities listed below are for the Engineer 5 position, and represent the duties and responsibilities that the incumbent will be expected to fulfill at the end of the training series.

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.
NOTE:
Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed at www.lapels.com.

Upcoming Graduates: Applications will be accepted from applicants who are within 90 days of graduation. The offer of employment will be contingent upon verification and confirmation that the applicant has received a qualifying degree. If selected, the applicant will be eligible to begin work the day after graduation. The selected candidate will be required to submit an official transcript confirming graduation within 60 days of hire. Please make every effort to attach a copy of your transcript to your application.
Appointment Type: This position may be filled by Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty. The Engineer Intern Applicant position can only be filled as a temporary Job Appointment. A job appointment is a temporary appointment that may last up to 24 months. This position may be converted to a probational appointment once the employee passes the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. Applicants qualifying based on college training or receipt of a baccalaureate degree will be required to submit an official college transcript to verify credentials claimed.
Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1 or 2, or an Engineer 3, 4 or 5. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected.
Compensation: The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.
Special Entrance rates have been established as follows:
Engineer Intern 1 $2115.20
Engineer Intern 2 $2263.20
Engineer 3 $2671.20
Engineer 4 $2952.00
Engineer 5 $3158.40
Required certification for applicants interested in qualifying for Engineer Intern 1 or 2: Engineer Intern Certificate in the state of Louisiana.
Required License for applicants interested in qualifying for Engineer 3, 4, or 5: Professional Engineer License in the state of Louisiana. Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana. If selected for the position, they will be required to obtain a Louisiana license prior to appointment.
Incumbent may be required to use a state vehicle for statewide travel, climb tall bridge towers, lift heavy items (equipment covers), and occasionally work in extreme weather conditions such as rain, cold, or heat.
