As a Junior Biomedical Engineer, you will assist in the maintenance, testing, and commissioning of medical equipment to ensure it is safe and fully operational. You’ll work closely with clinical staff to support frontline healthcare delivery through timely technical support and problem-solving. This role offers hands-on experience across a wide range of devices, with opportunities for ongoing learning and professional development.

Classifications for this position will range from RX1 - RX7 ($63,674.00 - $91,785.20).

Your Contribution

  • Degree in Biomedical Engineering or an Applied Science relating to physical sciences or an equivalent technical discipline
  • A sound understanding and application of Australian Standards as they relate to medical equipment.

1.LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role will provide technical and operational support for the Biomedical Engineering Department across all areas of St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. This includes support for testing, reparing and maintenance of medical equipment to support all areas at the hospital.

St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne is committed to recruitment and retention of high-quality staff. 2.POSITION PURPOSE

The Grade 1 Biomedical Engineer will perform acceptance testing, repair and maintenance of medical equipment as per AS3551: Management Programs for Medical Devices under supervision and independently where competence has been displayed. The technician will act as front line support in a diverse range of medical equipment to ensure continuity of service.

The Grade 1 Biomedical Engineer may be asked to assist with TGA recalls, projects and other matters from time to time.

The technician will be responsible for ensuring all preventative maintenance within their designated areas is complete in a timely manner.

3.POSITION DUTIES

RESPONSIBILITY AREA 1: Risk Management for Biomedical Equipment

  • Undertake safety and performance testing in accordance with AS3551: Management Programs for medical devices within allocated departments
  • Ensure at least 95% of devices are tested on time and no Risk Category 1 items are overdue in areas assigned by the manager
  • Perform acceptance testing on medical equipment purchased by STV in accordance with Medical Engineering and Physics procedures.

Performance Indicators:

  • Percentage of Risk 1 items performed on time -100% monthly
  • Percentage of Risk2 items performed on time – 90% monthly

RESPONSIBILITY AREA 2: Quality Systems

Apply established methods, policies and procedures with a commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous improvement.

On-going education is essential in a technology related field. On-going self-education as well as participation in local education ensure adequate skills are maintained and developed.

Performance Indicators:

  • Undertake at least 40 hours of self-education (courses, conferences, seminars, computer training etc.) in a calendar year
  • Develop and perform at least 3 in-house technical training sessions relating to medical devices per annum at a time suitable to the department.

You will be responsible for ensuring a safe environment for yourself and others working on the project
