Howden Thomssen Compressors (HTC), is a specialist supplier of tailor-made gas compression equipment to various industries. Our products have made a valuable difference for our clients for the past century, and we are currently looking for a R&D Lead Engineer who will assist us in making a valuable difference in the century to come in a company that is leading in the energy transition.

The Product Specialist Compressors R&D provides a technical support to the Sales and Project global teams by ensuring the necessary design rules and basis of technical standards are available and maintained and replying to specific support requests. He analyses, validate and formalize the knowledge related to the core products in the company.

What are the responsabilities we give you?

  • Defining and issuing the fundamental design rules and technical standards up to the point they can be used by the project teams to execute projects without support from R&D; All changes/additions need to be implemented properly as per the organization’s procedures and requirements
  • Verifying calculation methods, clarifies existing standards and acceptance criteria
  • Initiating, performing and reviewing DFMEAs (Design failure mode and effect analysis)
  • Analysing and replying to questions from the other teams related to understanding and application of the technical standards
  • Supporting the Sales Teams and makes decisions on compressor applications and selections that can not be achieved within the limits of technical standards; validation or advice
  • Contributing to or leading troubleshooting activities to support project teams

What would we like to see in your background, experience or knowledge?

  • Master Degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience working on and/or with compressors
  • Solid academic knowledge of rotating equipment, subsystems and interfaces between systems
  • Working knowledge of calculations and design methodologies, systems and tools
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Basic knowledge on materials (mechanical properties, composition, uses)
  • Analyse and compare design alternatives
  • Solid academic knowledge (though not expertise) in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
  • Basic knowledge in vibrations and pulsations, pressure equipment
  • Communication: ability to explain and document technical choices, ability to write technical documentation
  • Good communication skills in English is required
