The Emerging Technology team within P&C IT Services is seeking an intern for the summer 2025.
Responsibilities:
- Analyzes internal and external data and performs statistical modeling to develop actionable insights and recommendations to management regarding business and product performance.
- Develops data mining architectures/models/protocols, statistical reporting, and data analysis methodologies to identify trends and extract knowledge from large, high dimensional data sets.
- Identifies areas to increase efficiency and automation of data analysis processes.
- Translate business problems/opportunities into technical requirements and data science specifications.
- Creates solutions that enable enhanced business performance and decision making through a range of data preparation, modeling, analysis and/or visualization techniques.
- Uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to develop processes automation.
- Researches and applies knowledge of existing and emerging data science principles, theories, and techniques to inform business decisions.
- Develops and maintains strong business knowledge and customer relationships.
- May estimate the economic impact of operational decisions.
- Actively participates in scrum planning and documentation in support of producing minimum viable products as well as product long term roadmaps
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Internal drive to expand your personal domain expertise and an insatiable curiosity about how to use that expertise in collaboration with other team members to mitigate our current and future customers’ financial insecurities.
- Coding skills in Python, the core AI/ML libraries (required)
o PyTorch, and the HuggingFace library (bonus)
- Coding skills in PySpark (bonus)
- Know your math:
- Statistics – What is a hypothesis test and what is the central limit theorem? (required)
- Linear Algebra – Be able to explain Singular Value Decomposition and what an Eigenvector is.
- Stochastic processes (bonus)
- Bayesian Statistics (I almost want to say required, but I won’t)
- A solid understanding of finance
- Option pricing model – Why is this important to insurance?
- What is the difference between risk avoidance, mitigation, and mediation?
Education:
- Working on a B.S. in Applied Math, Statistics, Engineering, Finance, Science, or Computer Science or equivalent experience
- Graduating in 2028
