The Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University (NYU) invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor focusing on creative ways to engage math or the sciences with the humanities, social sciences, or transdisciplinary practices. We seek a scholar with a Ph.D. (or expected degree in 2025) in mathematics, statistics, or the natural sciences, who is committed to studying and teaching mathematics or a natural science in a critically engaged and interdisciplinary way, without laboratory space, and primarily to non-science students. Areas of teaching might include, but are not limited to, statistics and social inequity; data justice or data visualization; computing and democracy; public health; machine learning, algorithmic justice, and AI; genetics and biodiversity; energy; extreme weather, environmental health, and environmental justice; astrophysics; astrobiology; civil engineering. Successful candidates for this two-year position will present strong evidence of excellence in interdisciplinary teaching and research and will have the Ph.D. in hand by the start date of September 1, 2025.
The teaching load for this position is four courses per year (two in the fall and two in the spring). Additionally, visiting faculty carry an advising load of up to five students. Successful applicants will have evidence of teaching effectiveness, an ongoing research program, and commitment to increasing diversity and fostering inclusion in academia.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $95,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the start date and an interdisciplinary research program, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and a commitment to increasing diversity and fostering inclusion in academia.
