To enable our design engineers to develop Integrated Circuits and products, NXP has created a high end large-scale hardware design environment. This design environment consists of 10,000 plus servers located in 5 multi-cloud data centers across the globe and is supported by a global R&D IT team, of which our Linux VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) team is part of.

You will join the VDI team, which is responsible for the complete VDI solution, from the architecture level up to the operational levels. We partner and facilitate with other IT teams that are responsible for services we do not own, but our VDI team sets and manages the operational requirements

As a VDI Design Engineer your challenge will be to work on our new developments and initiatives, along with helping to provide operational support with our VDI environment. This can comprise many aspects such as; testing new versions of Operating systems, developing a new Template version and qualifying the new machine for use with our EDA applications, and also performing root cause analyses on technical problems in close collaboration with other IT teams, design engineers, or the vendor. A thorough understanding of / or deep interest in the Linux operating systems is a must.

Our VDI team manages thousands of virtual machines globally, automation is essential to configure and manage these resources, and you will be working on automating deployment of systems. Our team will leverage this automated approach, as we drive towards our next step of having an enforced desired state.

Your responsibilities

  • Translate business requirements to our VDI solution
  • Work on new developments in the VDI environment, or new VDI technology implementations
  • Create design for projects/alterations and redevelopment along with VDI team members.
  • Develop/Contribute to proof-of-concepts
  • You will be contributing to automation and analytical solutions and capabilities within the organization but also will be involved on providing technical support in day to day operations for NXP R&D engineers using VDI service
  • Root cause analyses on problems in close collaboration with other teams, design engineers or the vendor
  • Support the VDI solution and the engineers by solving incidents, problems and implementing changes.

Your team

The VDI team is working in the DevOps approach, using GitLab to manage their build and deployment process. You will be working in / extending automated workflows (GitOps). You will join the team in Bangalore (India). 

Despite the fact your team is located in Bangalore, you have a global scope, for the two other teams are located in Mexico and Eindhoven. You will be working in a multi-cultural environment, where you also have the opportunity to work with engineers all over the world.

As VDI Design Engineer you report to the Product Owner VDI environments in Bangalore.

Your profile

To be successful in this role you have:

  • A degree in Information technology or similar.
  • 10+ years of experience in working in a multi-national environment
  • Proven experience in building and managing IT infrastructures (Linux system administration, VMWare, cloud, storage, networking) and/or working in large-scale and complex technical environments.
  • You have software skills and have knowledge of scripting languages like bash, python, ansible, salt (experience in coding C++ is a plus).
  • Experience with DevOps tools like Git/Gitlab, CI/CD pipelines and platforms like VMware, Splunk, satellite and AWS is a plus.
  • Ability to identify structural changes needed in the architecture/design and help define migration strategies and relevant roadmaps to implement.
  • Hands-on experience / affinity with Linux (RedHat 7 / 8)

  • An ambitious and outgoing person with strong analytical and technical IT skills. A fast learner; who thinks outside the box.
  • A person that has a strong motivation to apply and promote End-to-End thinking and is able to understand the Designer's world/needs and translate their requirements to input for VDI Architecture/Design.
  • A person who enjoys working together with team members / people from diverse cultures all over the world, communicating fluently in English
  • Interested in and capable to technically mentor team members
  • Provide insights in identifying new concepts, ideas, techniques, best practices, and technology.
  • A person having a strong written / verbal communication and presentation skills.
