CONSTRUCTION QUALITY CO-OP 

McKenney's Inc., voted one of Atlanta and Charlotte's BEST PLACES TO WORK, is seeking Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering or Construction Management Majors who are interested in the construction industry. As an industry leading mechanical contractor, McKenney’s has specialized in HVAC and Plumbing construction throughout the greater Atlanta area for over 70 years. At McKenney’s our co-ops are an integral part of the success for our projects and the company, and we rely on and encourage their fresh ideas. 

WHY CO-OP WITH US? 

A successful Construction Quality Co-op will learn how to identify, measure, and analyze quality risks in the business and support efforts in eliminating them. They will have a hand in supporting efforts that continuously improve our business and optimize our safety, quality, and productivity values. 

WHAT IS THE CRITERIA FOR A MCKENNEY’S CO-OP? 

Candidates must be able to complete 3 full-time, alternating co-op rotations in the office they are being hired for prior to their graduation. (Fall 2024, Summer 2025, Spring 2026) Students must be enrolled in a co-op program at an accredited engineering school majoring in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering or Construction Management. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Regularly communicate with Project Managers about quality events on construction projects 
  • Perform root cause analysis of events that compromise quality on construction projects and support initiatives to prevent those events from repeating 
  • Regularly review and analyze quality data for significant trends and support efforts in communicating those trends and lessons learned with the business 
  • Walk jobsites with quality team to learn about construction workflow, enhance mechanical knowledge, identify areas of waste, and survey for adherence to safety, quality, and productivity values 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND CHARACTERISTICS 

  • Self-motivated and team-orientated 
  • Ability to use time productively 
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to work well independently and as part of a team 
  • Maintain a strong attention to detail 
  • Ability to effectively communicate across a diverse group of people (Project Managers, Drafting, Field Staff, Fabrication Shops, etc.) 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORTS 

  • Work involves moderate exposure to elements, such as hot/cold temperatures, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises when visiting jobsites. 
  • Work environment involves some exposure to construction-related hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. 
  • Light physical effort. Requires handling average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and some standing or walking. 
  • Work requires local and occasional out-of-town travel to job sites and customer locations.
