The Opportunity

Flock is looking for an experienced Hardware Engineer to add to our Hardware Engineering team. This team is responsible for all physical design, testing, and hardware product quality. This role will make an impact by prototyping, validating, evaluating, and contributing to the design of Flock Safety’s line of imaging products, camera, and its associated peripheral components and subsystems. You will work closely with Flock’s Imaging and hardware teams and cross-functionally with other internal and external engineering teams to deliver high-quality, mission-critical cameras. 

This position is on-site in Tampere, Finland.

The Skillset

  • Bachelors/Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years experience
  • Proven experience in systems engineering, preferably in the development of camera electronics.
  • Proven experience in designing and developing electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in design tools (e.g., Altium) for schematics and PCB layout design.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles.
  • Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller-based designs.
  • Knowledge of RF design principles and EMC/EMI mitigation techniques
  • Experience in design, simulation and validation of signal integrity and power integrity.
  • Experience in Bill of Material creation and component procurement.
  • Experience with testing and validation procedures for electronics products.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Hands on skills for electronics prototyping and rework (soldering, etc.)
  • Competence for designing and building new electronics and imaging lab setups and test fixtures.

90 Days at Flock

We are a results-oriented culture and believe job descriptions are a thing of the past. We prescribe to 90 day plans and believe that good days, lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a Hardware Engineer at Flock Safety. 

The First 30 Days

  • Familiarize yourself with current Flock Safety camera products and the electrical engineering design
  • Understand our R&D lab operations and QA test systems

The First 60 Days 

  • Contribute to the building of the Tampere lab for the design and build of test fixtures, automated QA, electrical design, validation, and measurements
  • Develop a deep understanding of our current and future roadmap

90 Days & Beyond 

  • Participate in the system design and architecture definition for future camera and audio products. Drive the related inputs from the camera and audio team

The Interview Process

  1. Our First Chat: During this first conversation, you’ll meet with a recruiter to chat through your background, what you could bring to Flock, what you are looking for in your next role, and who we are. 
  2. The Hiring Manager Interview: You will meet with your potential future boss to really dive into the role, the team, expectations, and what success means at Flock. This is your chance to really nerd out with someone in your field. 
  3. The Technical Assessment: Our technical assessments seek to test the hard skills required to do the job. Engineers may find themselves in coding interviews or architecture discussions, sales roles may present mock discovery calls, and leadership roles may craft 90 day plans. Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day. 
  4. The Panel: Learn more about the team, responsibilities, and workflows. You should be prepared to speak about past projects, how you collaborate and communicate with others, and how you live our values. Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners.
