About Seurat

Seurat Technologies is a 3D printing company disrupting a 7,000-year-old manufacturing industry by reinventing how we produce goods, replacing harmful manufacturing processes (like casting) w/ cleaner tech that prints the future. With $180M raised and backed by venture partners like Capricorn, NVIDIA Ventures, True Ventures, General Motors Ventures, Denso, Porsche SE, SIP global partners, Honda, Xerox, Cubit Capital, Siemens Energy, and Maniv Mobility, our Area Printing process manufactures components at price points and quality levels that compete directly with conventional manufacturing techniques of machining and casting, delivering high-volume, localized and decarbonized manufacturing. Seurat’s pioneering approach was originally developed at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL).

We are currently seeking a talented and team-oriented Senior Thermal Engineer to work on simulating the effect of thermal loads on laser optics and optics mounts as well as modelling the interaction of a laser beam with metal powder and designing experiments to prove the simulations.

General Description: Seurat Technologies is seeking a talented and self-motivated senior thermal Engineer. For all candidates, expertise in computational fluid dynamics and finite element analysis is required. The ideal candidate demonstrates expert analytical and possibly hands-on experience in dealing with thermal effects caused by high power laser beams passing through optical elements and interacting with mechanical systems. Experience in modelling laser-matter interaction where the matter (metals) absorbs laser light and transforms it into heat and melts metal powder into a pool is also very valuable for this position.

Job Duties:

  • Simulate the thermal loads on optics and optical mounts in a complex high power optical system.
  • Simulate the effect of laser-matter interaction with metal powder and simulating the geometry of the liquid pool of metal and its interaction with the underlying solid metal.
  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in related thermal modeling fields, with proficiency with Ansys Fluent, Ansys Mechanical.
  • Proficient with computational fluid dynamics (Ansys CFD).
  • Knowledge of Solidworks is a big plus.
  • Knowledge of Material Science is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SigFit or similar software is a plus.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.

Education/Experience:

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optics or other related fields.
