JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Physics in the Penn State Eberly College of Science seeks a part-time marketing and communications intern to contribute to the department’s written and visual communications about 10 hours a week.

The primary roles for the selected candidate will be to assist the Department Head with the a weekly internal Newsletter, and to partner with the college’s Office of Communications team on writing web content updates for the department. This work may include gathering background information and interviewing faculty, staff, students, and alumni. Some additional responsibilities, based on the candidate’s communications skills may include partnering with the communications team to take photographs and create video clips, and contribute content for department social media and promotional materials.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be organized and detail-oriented
  • Be self-motivated
  • Have story and marketing content writing experience
  • Have familiarity with working in a web content management system (CMS)
  • Have some multimedia experience for social media production and familiarity with LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram platforms
  • Have the ability to connect department and college goals, such as undergraduate and graduate recruiting efforts, and values to overall content strategy
