Summary 

Sonos is looking for an audio lab technician to work side-by-side with world class engineers and designers in developing some of the highest quality, best sounding, and most advanced audio products on the market. 

In this role, you will perform a variety of duties in support of the engineering effort within a recently formed business unit with a bias towards acoustic support. You will help prepare samples and prototypes, have the opportunity to develop and support a variety of tests and evaluations and take responsibility for the maintenance of lab equipment and supplies, all the while continuing to advance your knowledge and skills. 

The role is for a fixed term of 6 months with the possibility for extension. This position is ideally suited to a recent graduate looking to develop experience within the field of acoustics. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Develop tests and conduct measurements of hardware prototypes. 
  • Assist the audio team and other internal customers by designing and producing prototypes spanning Mechanical and Electrical domains. 
  • Generate and manage 3D models for rapid prototyping. 
  • Day to day running and upkeep of the audio lab facilities, tools and supplies. 
  • Continue to improve skills and knowledge by conducting on the job training with senior team members, with the opportunity to participate in training courses as may be necessary. 

Basic Requirements 

  • Passionate, curious, problem solver. 
  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Acoustics or a relevant subject.
  • Experience with hardware and software prototyping - from design to making. 
  • Basic familiarity with test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc. 
  • Ability to read a typical engineering test plan, execute it and independently evaluate pass/fail criteria.

Preferred Requirements 

  • Knowledge of Python. 
  • Some familiarity and knowledge of 3D CAD packages. 
  • Knowledge of building tools for system simulation and data analysis using Matlab
  • Familiarity with simulation software such as COMSOL. 
  • Experience with common prototyping hardware, eg Raspberry Pi, Arduino, etc. 
  • Experience of performing and interpreting audio measurements in electronic and acoustic domains. 
  • A desire to develop within the field of acoustics with the aim of becoming part of the audio engineering team.
