Team Introduction

The speech team's mission is to empower content understanding, interaction and creation across TikTok and other products using speech & audio related technologies. We focus on cutting-edge R&D in areas like speech & audio, music processing, natural language understanding and multimodal deep learning. We are looking for top talents to work on these exciting technologies, integrate them into various TikTok and other products and ultimately bring joy to our global user base!

We are looking for talented individuals to join us for an internship in 2024. Internships at TikTok aim to offer students industry exposure and hands-on experience. Turn your ambitions into reality as your inspiration brings infinite opportunities at TikTok.

Internships at TikTok aim to provide students with hands-on experience in developing fundamental skills and exploring potential career paths. A vibrant blend of social events and enriching development workshops will be available for you to explore. Here, you will utilize your knowledge in real-world scenarios while laying a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. It runs for 12 weeks beginning in May/June 2024.

Successful candidates must be able to commit to one of the following summer internship cycles below:

1.May 20, 2024 to August 9, 2024

2.May 28, 2024 to August 16, 2024

3.June 10, 2024 to August 30, 2024

4.June 17, 2024 to September 6, 2024

5.June 24, 2024 to September 13, 2024

We will prioritize candidates who are able to commit to these start dates. Please state your availability clearly in your resume (Start date, End date).

Responsibilities

• Conduct cutting-edge research and development in speech/audio foundation models。
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify key research areas and contribute to the development of innovative speech/audio models.
• Work with product development teams to integrate research findings into practical applications for TikTok and other platforms.
• Collaborate on team-driven projects to address complex challenges and enhance the overall effectiveness of the research team.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a PhD in Software Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Able to commit to working for 12 weeks during Summer 2024.
• Experience in one or more areas of machine learning and deep learning, including but not limited to:
• Automatic Speech Recognition
• Automatic Speech Translation
• Speech/audio self-supervised learning and foundation models
• Speaker recognition and verification
• Speech emotion recognition
• Multimodal foundation models
• Large Language Model pretraining and finetuning

Preferred Qualifications:

• Graduating December 2024 onwards with intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship.
• Publications in top-tier ML/DL venues such as NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, AAAI and speech venues such as ICASSP, ASRU, Interspeech.
• Deep understanding of Large Language models.
• Familiar with distributed computing and large scale model training.
• Familiar with deep learning frameworks such as Tensorflow and Pytorch.
• Familiar with engineering principles and best practices.
• Highly competent in algorithms and programming; Strong coding skills in C/C++ and Python.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-functional environments.
