Sierra Space’s Orbital Missions and Services (OMS) division focuses on the design, build, and operations of small satellites in support of commercial services and national security space and offers two work locations: Louisville, Colorado and Centennial, Colorado. 

We are seeking a Propulsion Engineer Lead that will contribute to the growth and development of our core spacecraft products. You will work across a variety of programs, apply different propulsion technologies, and have a direct influence on both commercial and national security missions. You will provide ownership of the propulsion subsystem through its lifecycle, develop subsystem requirements, perform subsystem verifications, work with propulsion hardware suppliers, and perform mission calculations as they relate to the propulsion subsystem.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline and typically 10 or more years of relevant experience
  • Understanding of engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools
  • Familiarity with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • Active Top Secret US government security clearance with SCI and SAP eligibility

Strongly preferred:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in space product propulsion
  • Demonstrated expertise in mechanical, pneumatic, hypergolic systems
  • Proficiency in identifying propulsion subsystem requirements and performing verification
  • Experience with propulsion subcomponent or pressurized components (valves, regulators, tubes, pipes) development, design and test
  • Proficiency in Solidworks or similar CAD tools
  • Proficiency in fluids simulation tools

Preferred:

  • Experience applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5
  • Understanding of Engineering Simulation such as Finite Element structural analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermal Analysis
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
  • Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes

Estimated Starting Salary Range: 

$120,552.10 - $180,828.15

Sierra Space offers annual incentive pay based upon performance that is commensurate with the level of the position.
