Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to set the strategy for an industry leading product line? VIAVI is looking for an Avionics Product Line Director. From our beginnings in 1968 as IFR, then Aeroflex and now VIAVI, we have been the market leader for Avionics Test Equipment. As the Avionics Product Line Director, you will be responsible for the success of the Avionics Military and Commercial Bench Test, sets Flight Line and IFF Test sets. Responsibilities associated with this role include:

  • Understanding of Avionics customers and market needs and trends.
  • Defining, managing and establishing a competitive product roadmap.
  • Developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with key customers.
  • Identifying, quoting and winning major opportunities and countering competitive threats.
  • Engaging with DoD organizations and representatives in support of avionics programs and initiatives.
  • Preparing and executing on business plans and achieving P&L targets.

You will manage the Avionics Business Development and Applications organizations. You will also represent the company as a key spokesperson and media representative for the Avionics Commercial and Military Markets. In concert with the Business Development organization, SVP & General Manager of the AvComm Business Unit, you will evaluate new markets and business opportunities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for all aspects of the commercial & military Avionics Test Product Line.
  • Analyze markets and define customers and product requirements.
  • Define, manage, and own competitive Avionics product roadmaps including developing business/marketing plans for new product releases.
  • Actively manage and monitor progress of product development with R&D teams.
  • Manage business development, customer relationships and strategic partnerships.
  • Manage product positioning and drive engagement for major customer programs.
  • Oversee new product introduction and training for major customers, sales team, and channel partners.
  • Shape the Go-to-Market strategy including defining requirement and structure for Direct Sales, Manufacturing Representatives, Channel Partners, and Distributors.
  • Develop and execute strategic business plans, including meeting revenue profitability targets.
  • Forecast and provide critical inputs to the demand planning process.
  • Identify and drive cost reduction opportunities in support of continued profitable growth.
  • Lead a team of product managers, technical marketing & application engineers.
  • Recruit and train open positions in above team.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Required qualifications for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Advanced technical or business administration (MBA) degrees are a plus.
  • Technical aptitude and ability to engage in engineering discussions with R&D, Applications and Operations Teams.
  • Fifteen years’ experience in Avionics engineering and/or marketing roles including both military and commercial aviation industries.
  • At least five years’ experience in supervisory or managerial positions. 
  • Currently have or ability to obtain a U.S. Secret (or above) security clearance.
  • Ability to travel (~20-40% of time).
