Summary:

The Strategic Account Manager (m/f) - Tire will cover accounts with headquarters in China, Korea and SEA with full responsibility for strategy; Maintaining and growing existing accounts, working with distribution and developing and closing new opportunities. The role will encompass the product groups within the Tire portfolio.

All customers are truly global with manufacturing and technology sites in all regions. The role requires global co-ordination with these teams and our local people in those regions. All local people report (dotted line) to the strategic account manager for the purposes of Chinese customer growth.

Support other global SAMs when their accounts have sales within China

The role necessitates strong skills in Marketing, Sales and Technology. The wider team is always available to assist but the role is self-sufficient and operates with great autonomy.

The applicant should have a strong aptitude and history of handling accounts with values in excess of $25mm and in closing new business with a “technical value sale”.

Good teamwork is necessary within the role since the support of specialists such as Technology, Legal, Quality, Finance, Customer Service, Product Management etc will need to support the role in winning at projects. Proactively garnering support from the relevant functions will be a key to success.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Act as Strategic Account Manager (SAM) for all China local accounts. Develop a strategy for each to promote global growth of MPM products.
  • Whilst keeping focus on local China accounts, act as an experienced MPM leader to support sales staff in each APAC sub-region. Lead through influence on co-ordinate regional activities where possible.
  • Identify growth opportunities within the territory with both new and existing customers, and develop new value propositions. Partner with the Technology teams on new product development to address the market needs.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining close customer ties at multiple levels up to senior executives and across multiple specialist functions at strategic customers. Be known as a solutions provider.
  • Prepare and keep evergreen job charts of each key account and cultivate relationships with key decision makers.
  • Serve as a source of voice of the customer and marketing intelligence.
  • Secure current and future business via appropriate agreements or contracts. Proactively seek such arrangements.
  • Work towards agreed yearly sales plan in order to meet or exceed set sales targets.
  • Prepare forecasts on monthly, quarterly and yearly basis in Arkieva-tool.
  • Frequently visit customers (direct and distributors) in the sales region. Be communicative.
  • Analyze sales from SAP and other tools. Drive behavior based upon data. Chase gaps. Manage the Chinese business as if it were an independent entity.
  • Support internal Logistics-, Finance and Quality-department in order to solve issues the customers has (Logistics/Finance/Quality)
  • Drive negotiation of joint development value sharing agreements with key regional customers, distributors and develop key external industry relationships that will allow the Tire segment to position products optimally and develop new products.
  • Help close business (Share Expansion, NPI’s, New Applications, Global Translations and Business Development) with new and existing customers/distributors and develop and drive plans and programs to meet required operating plan for territory for sales volume, revenue, NPI vitality and EBITDA
  • Manage all projects (direct or via distribution) making sure communication between Momentive and the customer is done in a timely fashion. Understand all requirements from the customer, coordinate samples, prepare all necessary documentation (e.g. visit reports) and make sure full project history is up to date in the CRM system (salesforce.com)
  • Understand and effectively communicate the value proposition of products offered by MPM. Understand customer questions/objections and be able to challenge/resolve most topics without technical support.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • University degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or in business administration with experience in a commercial role within the chemical industry
  • Minimum 5 years direct sales experience preferably within the automotive industry.
  • Experience with Silanes or with silica filled tires preferred.
  • Good technical understanding of complex customer requirements.
  • Strong Sales skills with high customer orientation.
  • Ideally experience in working with CRM system preferably with Salesforce.com
  • High willingness to explore new things and create new business models.
  • Self-confident communicator with high customer orientation
  • Team player who enjoys working in a global and cross functional team
  • Excellent communicator with good presentation and networking skills
  • Global and open-minded thinking – not only related to own sales area.
  • Familiar with using common Office applications and experience in using SAP.
  • Fluent in English & Chinese (spoken and written)
  • Willingness to travel on a frequent basis (appr. 3 days per week) is necessary; sometimes (1-2/year) travel to other Momentive entities around the globe will likely be necessary.
