POSITION DETAILS
The Division of Humanities and the Arts seeks to understand human society and culture by studying languages, literatures, visual arts, philosophies, histories, theater, media, and music from around the globe. We shape culture and society by creating the images we see in daily life, the things we hear and read, and the histories that are written and examined. Studying humanities and the arts builds our capacity for empathy, for critical thinking, and for imagining new possibilities. Our students, many of whom are first generation college students from historically marginalized communities, are thus prepared to build a more just and equitable world, and to become leaders in every field of endeavor. In our work, we strive to create an interactive model of the humanities and the arts that will increase our engagement with New York City’s diverse cultural resources, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and encourage our students to be active learners and creators of new knowledge.
The City College of New York has launched a new Humanities Internships (HI) initiative to connect students within the Division of Humanities and Arts to authentic, relevant, and practical professional learning opportunities throughout New York City. This initiative will support students as they navigate career options within the humanities and arts while simultaneously building sustainable partnerships with community stakeholders. By opening avenues to critical professional development, CCNY’s commitment to connecting students with valuable real-world experiences will enable us to create vital pathways to careers in the humanities and arts, thereby transforming not only our students' lives but also the community organizations to which they will bring their diverse experiences and expertise.
The Academic Internship Manager will report to the Dean of Humanities and the Arts at the City College of New York. This position will build and administer our new comprehensive Humanities Internship (HI) program. The HI Program Manager will work collaboratively across the division to support students, faculty, and advisors to develop the vision and systems of implementation to connect students to internship experiences across the city. The HI Program Manager will also cultivate relationships with community organizations, cultural institutions, non-profit organizations, and public sector sites to create mutually beneficial internships opportunities for CCNY students. The HI Program Manager will play a critical and dynamic role in shaping how CCNY students expand their career networks and how community stakeholders can benefit from student experiences.
We seek candidates with experience working in team-based settings who are adept at creative problem solving. The role requires exceptional communication skills and experience in project management with multiple external stakeholders. Candidates should have experience in mentoring and a demonstrated track record in supporting historically marginalized communities. Ideal candidates will have a working knowledge of the landscape of community and cultural organizations within New York City as well as an understanding of higher education ecosystems. – placed under preferred qualifications.
CCNY aims to embrace diverse perspectives and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that is working to better support students, faculty and staff of all identities and backgrounds with particular focus on those from historically marginalized communities. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or systemically marginalized identities to apply.
