The RL Research Team pioneers research into new technologies to solve difficult technical challenges for our AR, VR, and MR products. We are developing all the technologies needed to enable breakthrough AR glasses and VR headsets, including optics and displays, computer vision, audio, graphics, brain-computer interface, haptic interaction, eye/hand/face/body tracking, perception science, To support the design of novel wearable devices, we are seeking an intern who can join our softgoods and textiles team and build wearable devices for better user experience. The chosen candidate will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.

Research Scientist Intern, Textile Mechanics and Modeling (PhD) Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the larger Reality Labs Research team and provide creative leadership on active material technologies.
  • Conduct hands-on testing, strong experience with tensile testing devices
  • Write and publish high quality scientific articles.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Textile Engineering, or related field.
  • FEA analysis tool experience (ANSYS, Abaqus, etc) and predictive analytical modeling experience, to help build solutions for textile based wearable devices.
  • Understanding of mechanics of textiles (newtonian physics preferred).
  • Experience with parametric CAD tools (Solidworks, NX, etc).
  • Hands on experience with data analysis and broader reporting.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of textiles, yarns, and fibers.
  • Experience with prototyping with softgoods.
  • 1+ year experience characterizing textile products.
  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.

$7,313/month to $11,333/month + benefits

Individual pay is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
