Description

 

Named to the Computerworld’s Top 100 Best Places to Work for seven straight years, the Kaiser Permanente IT organization is the team that powers the health IT leadership of Kaiser Permanente. We are looking for an experienced IT professional with a successful track record of leading application support and enhancement efforts to join the HR Applications team as an Application Lead.

 

The Application Lead will be a member of a team of analysts and developers responsible for enhancing and supporting a suite of HR applications that support functions such as learning, recruiting, and compliance management. In this role the candidate will participate in a combination of major projects, application enhancements, and production support activities.

 

We are looking for a candidate that can team with our business partners to capture their business requirements and prepare detailed functional and technical design documentation. This will require you to help our business partners think about details they have overlooked, and present them with a solution that meets their needs in the most effective and cost-efficient means. The Application Lead works with the team’s developers to build these solutions.

 

Specific Responsibilities include:

• Serves as the client-facing liaison between IT and our business partners for multiple business groups and applications. Serves as a single point of contact for the resolution of client issues

• Leads weekly meetings with business partners to manage status and set priorities for the queue of system change requests. Documents and publishes updated work queue spreadsheets.

• Manages the intake of new work requests. Works with our business partners to ensure they prepare comprehensive, well-documented requirements

• Prepares detailed functional and technical design documents that transform business requirements into deliverable solutions. Prepares and presents the pros and cons for various design alternatives for meeting functional requirements

• Works with the development team to build the agreed upon solution. Assist with test planning and testing, and serves as primary point of contact to support user testing.

• For application enhancements and break fixes, serves as project manager, working with other team member to prepare level of effort estimates, assign responsibility for development tasks, set delivery schedules, and manage work to meet agreed delivery dates

• Maintains working knowledge of supported application systems, interfaces, reporting processes, and data capture and uses this knowledge to assist business partners improve how systems support their business operations  

• Manages ongoing application support with the various IT technical areas to ensure continued application usage and success. Coordinates work assignments with other IT support teams (technical architecture, dba, etc.) and monitors status  

• Identifies potential issues and risks, and develops preventive action plans  

• Builds effective working relationships across functional lines  

• Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignment  

• Ability to accomplish work assignments with limited direction and supervision  

• Demonstrates sound judgment in knowing when to escalate issues

• Serves as technical/professional mentor to less experienced team members

Qualifications

 

Basic Qualifications

Experience

• Minimum six (6) years of related experience.

 

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or equivalent

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• 4 or more years experience with HR applications, including one or more Learning Management systems. Experience with Saba Learning Management strongly preferred. Experience with PeopleSoft or Oracle HCM a plus

• A minimum of 4 years of experience supporting application enhancement and break fixes

• Experience with writing queries with SQL to support problem investigation, data analysis, and application testing

• Familiarity with SDLC practices. Agile experience a plus

• Demonstrated ability to learn new systems and adapt to new processes quickly and to think “out of the box” to resolve issues

• Excellent oral and written communication skills
