Apple is looking for a Product Design Engineer to be part of Apple’s Battery Product Development Team in Shanghai. The Battery Product Development team at Apple produces high-energy and highly reliable embedded battery systems for all product teams. Tightly integrated with Product Development, Operations, Industrial Design and Reliability Testing groups, we own battery module development from initial system architecture through ramp. The Battery Cell Product Design Group works within the Battery Product Development organization. We are responsible for the mechanical engineering design of our battery cells, which are integrated into battery modules and then into products. In this role, you will coordinate and execute mechanical characterization of the cells to understand and improve the overall functionality of the cells for our customers. We are looking for someone who is passionate about engineering and thrives on innovation. The role will require strong mechanical design skills, an ability to lead projects, and excellent communication skills both with vendors in Asia and designers inside Apple. You will be responsible for creating and driving innovative mechanical or product design, driving failure analysis, building prototypes, studying analytical models, implementing corrective actions, and organizing DOEs as we study new designs. Experience closely working with suppliers is important as well. The engineer in this role will be very comfortable with applying scientific method and have be able to apply or create the process through which they can solve complex problems.
