Software Development Engineer in Test/SQA - Intern

The Align Treat Release Team is looking for an SDET Trainee to join our team. In this role, you will support our organization by learning and assisting with automation tasks that help improve software quality across multiple engineering teams.

As a trainee, you will gain hands-on experience in test automation and quality assurance processes. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to understand how automated testing frameworks are built and maintained. This includes learning about test execution, orchestration, and reporting tools used in modern QA environments.

You will collaborate closely with Software and Automation Engineers within the Treat Release Team and Internal Tooling groups and other teams. Your contributions will help ensure product reliability and compliance in a complex ecosystem, such as that required for a medical device company.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will…

  • Write and execute test cases and automated tests for APIs, backend, and UI
  • Analyze test results, and document issues
  • Collaborate with developers and QA to improve testability and follow coding standards
  • Explore tools and techniques for automation, including learning to use Copilot as an AI assistant
  • Participate in team discussions on quality strategies and best practices

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

In this role, you’ll need…

  • To be 3rd–4th year student in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or be undergraduate.
  • Core Technical Skills
    • Object-Oriented Programming (OOP):
      • Understanding of classes, objects, inheritance, encapsulation, and polymorphism
      • Ability to design and implement modular, reusable code
    • Data Structures:
      • Familiarity with arrays, lists, stacks, queues, hash maps, sets, trees, and graphs
      • Understanding of when and how to use each structure efficiently
    • Algorithms:
      • Basic sorting and searching algorithms (e.g., bubble, merge, quick sort; binary search)
      • Recursion and iterative problem-solving
      • Time and space complexity analysis (Big O notation)
    • Python Programming:
      • Proficiency in Python syntax and standard libraries
      • Experience with list comprehensions, lambda functions, exception handling, and file I/O
      • Familiarity with modules like collections, itertools, and functools
  • Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)
    • Familiarity with testing frameworks (e.g., unittest, pytest)
    • Basic understanding of databases (SQL or NoSQL)
    • Knowledge of REST APIs or JSON handling
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts, Git, and basic SQL; hands-on experience is a plus
  • Willingness to learn Atlassian tools (JIRA, Zephyr) and cloud basics (AWS/Azure)
  • Strong attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and ability to follow guidance
  • English proficiency at Intermediate level (B1/B2)
