Engineering internship: reliability testing through diagnostics monitoring

ASML

Introduction

ASML’s Diagnostics and Reliability Engineering team improve system performance through data-driven insights. You will have the chance to contribute to our team's efforts by utilizing the System Diagnostics Tool (SDT) to monitor system behavior during reliability testing. A key focus will be on analyzing diagnostics files, which contain data to identify trends, parameter shifts, and early failures.

Your Assignment

The SDT is a critical asset for capturing high-resolution diagnostic and metrology data during system operation and reliability testing. The diagnostics files generated by SDT provide a source of time-series data that, when properly analyzed, can reveal subtle changes in system performance and health. By leveraging this data, you will help enhance our ability to detect early signs of failure, improve test coverage, and support data-driven reliability improvements. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Collect and organize diagnostic and metrology data during reliability tests;
  • Analyze time-series data to detect trends, anomalies, and parameter shifts;
  • Correlate diagnostics data with test events to support root cause analysis;
  • Develop scripts or dashboards for data visualization and reporting;
  • Automate data extraction and processing to streamline workflows;
  • Investigate time-series analysis, statistical, and machine learning techniques for early fault detection and predictive analytics;
  • Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of current SDT metrics and data collection strategies.

Your Profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

  • Are enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Applied Mathematics, with an affinity for data;
  • Have basic knowledge of descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression analysis;
  • Have knowledge in time-series analysis and are able to interpret trends, anomalies, and parameter shifts;
  • Can work with MATLAB for analysis and visualization.
  • Are comfortable working with data, structured files and insights;
  • Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

This is a bachelor or master internship for a minimum of 6 months, 4–5 days per week (4 days onsite). The internship is not suitable for a thesis. The start date of this internship is around January/February/March 2026.

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;
  • You are located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter includes the willingness to relocate;
  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
