Position: Hydropower Equipment Specialist
Location: Melbourne, Australia
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in hydropower design
Experience: Over 10 years as an electrical expert for electromechanical equipment or a mechanical expert for hydromechanical components. Involved in the design and/or erection of electromechanical or hydromechanical equipment for hydropower projects. Should have experience of defining technical specifications for electromechanical equipment, BOPs, and Auxiliaries and/or hydromechanical components and hoisting arrangements, as the case may be.
As part of Tractebel’s growing Water business in Australia, we are seeking a Hydropower Equipment Specialist to be based in Melbourne.
The role involves supporting technical studies related to electromechanical equipment for dams, hydropower plants, and hydraulic structures (turbines, generators, BOP, gates, trashracks, SCADA, etc.). In addition to technical responsibilities, the selected candidate will play a key role in liaising with clients and partners on-site, ensuring smooth coordination between local stakeholders and Tractebel’s global engineering teams.an
This position offers a unique opportunity to support project delivery on the ground, while contributing to the strategic development of our operations in Australia.
Strong communication skills and a good understanding of client expectations will be essential to ensure effective project delivery and stakeholder alignment.
Reporting to the Tractebel Australia Head and relevant Project Managers across Tractebel entities, and supported by subject matter experts from our global offices, the key responsibilities will include:
In addition to the core technical responsibilities, the role will also involve contributing to the development of Tractebel’s activities in Australia, including:
Assignment Scope & Workload Expectations:
At the start of the assignment, the workload is expected to be evenly split, with 50% allocated to technical activities (including involvement in the Snowy 2.0 project) and 50% to support the business development and project acquisition efforts.
As Tractebel’s operations in Australia expand, the role is expected to transition progressively towards a predominantly technical focus.
The position will also involve regular short-term travel (typically less than one week) for site visits or client meetings. On average, 50% of the time will be spent in the office, with the remaining 50% dedicated to field or external engagements
