Job Title: Application Engineer
Job Description
The Application Engineer provides technical and modification parts support to sales, PPC, shop, and NP teams to facilitate order management and completion, thereby achieving departmental goals. The role also involves conducting research projects to enhance departmental efficiencies and capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Review requests from sales to provide quick information for processing motor modification quotes and orders through emails and phone calls.
- Develop and improve shop procedures to document current practices and methods, allowing for continuous improvement and uniform implementation, including conducting time studies for accurate capacity calculations.
- Provide technical assistance to PPC, shop, and NP teams as needed.
- Mentor and train sales teams on technical information related to motor modifications.
- Collaborate with product engineers and QA personnel to evaluate potential factory issues.
- Maintain and update all motor modification technical tools to ensure accuracy and reliability for users.
- Conduct training sessions for sales groups and field sales teams on motor modification processes and procedures.
- Support stock inventory conversions via modification processes.
- Source and develop new parts for addition to inventory or special projects.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Understanding of electric motor mechanical assembly to the component level.
- Ability to comprehend basic to medium complexity level specifications.
- Familiarity with basic industry standards such as NEMA, IEC, IEEE, UL.
- Proficiency in technical writing.
- Capability to read and interpret electrical drawings and nomenclature.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- Attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, negotiation, leadership, and communication skills.
- Customer focus and the ability to work well with others.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with SAP and ability to work with ERP systems.
- Experience with design, mechanical engineering, motors, BOM, drawings, and PLM.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Work Environment
The role is 100% onsite in Duluth, providing a personal desk and computer in an office and shop setting. The mod shop is equipped with 7 cranes and a team of 10 people. While there is no frequent travel required, occasional travel to other modification shops may occur with considerable advance notice. The current team includes 6 engineers, 2 operations personnel for the mod shop, gearing, and panels, 1 manufacturing specialist, 1 process engineer, and 1 training specialist.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
