Job Title: Application Engineer
Job Description
The Application Engineer provides technical and modification parts support to sales, PPC, shop, and NP teams to facilitate order management and completion, thereby achieving departmental goals. This role involves conducting research projects to assist in enhancing departmental efficiencies and capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Review requests from sales to provide quick information for processing motor modification quotes/orders through various communication channels such as emails and phone calls.
- Develop and improve shop procedures to document current practices and methods, ensuring continuous improvement and uniform implementation. This includes conducting time studies to ensure accurate operation routings for capacity calculations.
- Assist PPC, shop, and NP teams with technical support as needed.
- Consistently mentor and train sales teams on technical information related to motor modifications.
- Collaborate with product engineers and QA personnel to evaluate potential factory issues.
- Maintain and update all motor modification technical tools to ensure accuracy and reliability for users.
- Conduct training sessions for sales groups and field sales teams on motor modification processes and procedures.
- Support stock inventory conversions through the modifications process.
- Source and develop new parts for inventory addition or special projects.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or 2 to 4 years of related experience and/or training.
- Understanding of electric motor mechanical assembly at the component level.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and nomenclature.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- Technical writing skills.
- Familiarity with basic industry standards such as NEMA, IEC, IEEE, UL.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with design, mechanical engineering, motors, SAP, BOM, drawings, and PLM.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated skills in attention to detail, organization, time management, teamwork, initiative, problem-solving, analytical thinking, negotiation, leadership, customer focus, and communication.
Work Environment
This role is 100% onsite in Duluth, providing a dedicated desk and computer in a professional office setting with visits to the mod shop as needed. The mod shop is equipped with 7 cranes and staffed by 10 people. The team is composed of 6 engineers, 2 operations personnel, 1 manufacturing professional, 1 process engineer, and 1 training specialist. There is no regular travel required, though occasional travel to other mod shops may occur with ample advance notice.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
