Senior Business Developer

Preferrably based in Jakarta, Indonesia or may be in a hybrid work arrangement in Southeast Asia

Are you interested to work as a Senior Business Developer? In this role, you will be supporting our ambition to reach 300M people with safe drinking water through commercially viable business models: Business development for the Water Access & Sustainability team in Southeast Asia.

What is the Job all about?

Grundfos technologies are known for their energy optimisation and sustainability. As a company we are exploring how we can support governments and utilities to increase the sustainability of water service provision by improving energy optimisation and reducing non-revenue water with Grundfos technologies. This job will be exploring this potential in South-East Asia, with specific focus on Indonesia and the Philippines but also other countries.

This role will be directly reporting to the Global Sustainability and Water Access Leader. Ideally, this role is based in Indonesia but may also be in a hybrid arrangement with relevant experience working around the region.

Your main responsibilities:

Energy optimisation and non-revenue water:

  • Identifying potential energy-saving opportunities and technologies applicable to water utility operations by identifying utilities that would be willing and are financially robust enough to receive financing.
  • Assessing the energy consumption patterns and requirements of municipal water utilities through basic and advanced energy checks.
  • Evaluating the financial and economic feasibility of implementing energy savings contracts within the existing legal and regulatory framework.
  • Identifying an optimal business model that reduces the risk of payment default and ensures sustainable revenue streams.
  • Identifying key stakeholders and partnerships necessary for successful implementation, including regulatory bodies, financial institutions, and legal advisors.
  • Securing energy savings contracts with municipal water utilities in SE Asia and coordinate with external sales and service teams to ensure implementation and monitoring of performance.
  • Identifying champions (including interested utilities) in the sector to drive acceptance of the model in the utility sector to scale the solution.
  • Performing a similar process described above for non-revenue water.

Business Development Activities:

  • Developing an overall strategy/business plan for the focus countries in the region to drive access to clean drinking water.
  • Participating on a need basis in the negotiations with potential business model partners within the territory.
  • Conducting market assessment, i.e. determine end-user profiles, customer segments, value propositions per segment, estimate business potential, competitor analysis, etc. Strategic recommendations are made to WA&S based on the market studies.
  • Coordinating between SSPs and WA&S in terms of order intake, delivery schedules, and complaint management.
  • Assisting WA&S in conducting relevant tests of technology, business and partnership models within the territory together other team members within the local reach and at HQ level.
  • General advocacy of the WA&S business concept to various stakeholders i.e. World Bank, Regional Development Banks, various government agencies, NGOs, social enterprises, foundations and corporations with a pro water CSR profile. To be coordinated with the SSPs.
  • Assisting with development of customer presentation tools and coordination of end-user site visits
  • Developing and implementing training programs for WU organization on WA&S topics.

Your background:

  • Excellent analytical, written, verbal communications, and documentation skills
  • Ability to maintain focus and business acumen under sometimes stressful sales/business negotiations
  • Understanding of municipal water service operations
  • Systems thinking and problem solving
  • Preferably a Bachelor of Engineering degree preferably in Energy, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering. Alternatively, a BA in business administration with relevant work experience.
  • Must be fluent in English (Spoken and written), local Language is an added advantage
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Must be able to communicate technological solutions and product knowledge not only to technical but to business users as well
  • Understanding of the Sales Cycle and where the Sales Engineering Team is responsible
  • Must excel in competitive situations
  • Stakeholder management and relationship building
  • Experience in technical sales, project management and both private and public sector stakeholder management.
  • Conducting/managing market research activities to understand customer & stakeholder needs.
  • Sales forecast/planning and budgets (Management level) and developing annual marketing plans.
  • Successful record in dealing with municipal sales
  • Familiar with financing of project sales in the region
