Summary
The Dir, Operations is accountable for providing leadership in and creating a vision for operational excellence in HarbisonWalker International brick operations with a focus on safety, cost, quality, delivery, and labor issues in the manufacturing footprint.
Job Duties
- Utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools to lead and mentor brick manufacturing team(s) to increase productivity, lower costs, reduce scrap and drive manufacturing efficiency and excellence; conducting plant assessments to identify improvement opportunities and facilitate the development of improvement action plans with the local teams
- Leading special projects and assignments, providing executive team updates as necessary; setting Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics for each plant that measures performance, guides improvement, and communicates progress; providing executive updates
- Collaborating with Vice President, Operations and Engineering and executive team to drive business solutions and improve overall operational efficiency
Qualifications
- Requires B.S. degree in Engineering, Ceramics, Metallurgy, Chemical, Materials Science or related field
- Experience managing large capital and facility improvement projects
- Experience with machine automation
- Experience owning and analyzing budgets, forecasts and financial statements
- Advanced knowledge of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing tools and methodologies
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA, workers compensation and industry health and safety practices
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate and form strong relationships, including cross-functional partnering and influencing
- Computer operation skills (MS Office, QAD accounting system or similar products)
- The Dir, Operations requires fifteen (15) years of progressive leadership experience with a successful track record in planning, executing, and achieving strategic growth plans in a manufacturing environment.
- Significant travel is required in this role.
