About the Role

This position is for a visionary and accomplished leader to take on the role of Director of Test for Harman Pro. This pivotal position will lead and inspire three strategic engineering test teams, Processing, Amplifier, and Manufacturing Design, ensuring quality in most of the brands in Harman Pro, and a global team of 25 dedicated test engineers located in Richardson, TX, and Shenzhen, China. As a leader in this capacity, you will draw upon your extensive experience to cultivate a high-performing test and validation team in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. The ideal candidate will bring at least 15 years of progressive decision-making experience in testing and management, with a strong focus on automated testing methodologies. You will be responsible for shaping the overall test strategy and ensuring successful execution for Harman Pro's audio, video, and control product lines. This includes overseeing the entire testing lifecycle, from the initial product concept to the final release, with a keen commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards. Key leadership duties will encompass defining and executing a robust test methodology tailored to hardware, environmental, feature, and system-level testing. You will oversee project estimations, scheduling, resource allocation, and management, while fostering collaboration with various Harman stakeholders, including Product and Project Management. As a strategic engineering leader, you will set clear goals for the team, conduct thorough performance evaluations, and build a motivated team of top-tier talent. Your leadership will play a crucial role in addressing any misalignments within the team, ensuring that everyone is aligned with our vision and objectives.

Your Team

This position reports to the Executive Director of Video and Control, Harman Professional Solutions. The position has three direct reporting managers overseeing strategic teams for Processing and Amplifier products, and Manufacturing Design, comprising a total team of more than 25 engineers and responsible for testing most of our Harman Professional brands.

What You Will Do

  • Set the long-term test and validation roadmap and use that to influence the strategic decisions of the Electronics organization including forecasting and planning.
  • Collaborate with organization leaders on the strategic, long-term roadmap for Harman Pro's product lines.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team to support strategic objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing global test team.
  • Set and track ambitious team goals aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of current and emerging best practices and automated testing strategies.
  • Support Pro Solutions engineering organizational and business objectives with impactful planning and decision making.
  • Manage a global team of engineers including performance evaluations, resource allocation and staff hiring evaluations.
  • Collaborate with product and project managers to align resource allocation with business objectives.
  • Drive innovation and technology adoption within the test team.
  • Oversee a team that designs, develops and executes test cases (via test scripts or manual) for embedded platforms and products across many different chipsets and operating systems.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks and challenges.
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations.

What You Need

  • Relevant education in engineering or related field. BS required.
  • 15+ years hands-on test experience of embedded products including writing/executing test plans and test cases.
  • 10+ years managing test teams working on complex projects encompassing pre- and post-launch.
  • Strong understanding of KPI’s that drive engineering success and applying that to maximize the performance of the teams.
  • Strong experience in developing test automation frameworks.
  • Strong collaboration skills to build and sustain productive relationships at all organizational levels, both internally and externally (3rd Party Manufacturers).
  • Ability to negotiate through differences and persuade others to act.
  • Quickly assess situations, identify root causes, and determine required resources to effectively resolve.
  • Experience in task break-down, estimation and resource scheduling.
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring high-performing test teams in a global environment.
  • Strong technical expertise in testing hardware products, networking, operating systems and relevant engineering technologies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical associates.
  • An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.
  • A good educator who is trustworthy and willing to share information and serve as a mentor.
  • Ability to lead a test team that is driven to collaborate with engineering for on-time product releases.

Bonus Points if You Have

  • Knowledge of audio, video, and control products.
  • Knowledge of Google Test Framework.
  • Fluency in multiple scripting languages.
  • Experience working in a global matrixed organization.
  • Atlassian Tools (Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket)
