Job Description

Join SGS, as we expand our onsite laboratory operations across WA. We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and support our dynamic onsite laboratory teams. This is a pivotal leadership position focused on driving performance, ensuring operational excellence, and delivering exceptional client service in the minerals sector. The position is based in Perth, however occasional travel to sites will be required.

Key Responsibilities include, however, are not limited to:

  • Provide operational leadership and support across multiple onsite laboratories, ensuring alignment with production monitoring and project goals.
  • Oversee safety, quality, staffing, and service delivery across mine site operations.
  • Ensure results are accurate, timely, and aligned with client expectations.
  • Drive business growth by strengthening client relationships and enhancing service offerings.
  • Lead and mentor site supervisors and laboratory personnel, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and high performance.
  • Compile and present monthly operational reports, including safety KPIs, turnaround times, quality metrics, and customer service outcomes.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives—optimize procedures, equipment use, training, and roster planning to boost productivity and quality.
  • Support planning and setup of upcoming onsite laboratories alongside the Geochem Business Manager.
  • Ensure timely completion and reporting of proficiency tests; collaborate with the National Technical Manager to address corrective actions.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a science-related discipline.
  • Experience in the minerals industry, including both commercial and onsite laboratory environments (desirable).
  • Strong customer service focus and understanding of geochemical sampling and analysis.
  • Proven leadership capabilities in managing both local and remote teams.
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Clear and confident communicator, both verbal and written.
  • Strategic thinker who can translate vision into action.
