Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Entry-Level Geologist or Environmental Engineer in Training for either our Des Moines or Kansas City office to support our growing portfolio of work in the Midwest. You will work closely with guidance and supervision of local Professional Geologist and Engineers on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger projects throughout the Midwest.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and execution of projects with other disciplines or professions under the direction of a senior engineer/designer.
  • Develops and implements work plans for soil and ground water remediation and environmental compliance projects, reviews data, and writes reports.
  • Performs field work as directed by a senior geologist or engineer/designer.
  • Assists with basic duties on projects of various complexity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior geological or engineering staff.
  • Provides environmental sampling and monitoring services on projects.
  • Assist with drilling or onsite construction observation, contractor coordination, and daily reports.
  • Complete geological logs and cross-sections, figure or site pan preparation, and as-built survey review.
  • Able to liaise between clients, contractors, regulatory officials and third parties on site.
  • Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required).

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Basic understanding of all phases of engineering document production.
  • Knowledge of technical specifications and bid documents.
  • Knowledge of GIS mapping and analysis.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to perform will installation or construction observation and coordinate with drillers or other contractors.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional and positive manner, both in writing and in person, with clients, employees, and visitors.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or civil or chemical or environmental engineering.
  • Minimum of 1-4 years of experience. Working toward licensure. Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in geologist or civil or chemical or environmental engineering and EIT.
