R&D Mechanical Technician – (Contract w/possible Contract-to-Hire) – Onsite – MA

Dynamic Robotics Manufacturer seeks a R&D Mechanical Technician for an onsite 6-month contract that could go to permanent/direct hire. This requires 6+ years hands-on mechanical assembly/prototyping in robotics, motor sports, aerospace, or similar environments. Additionally, expertise in mechanical and electro-mechanical systems build, troubleshooting and general maintenance are a must. Also requires expertise developing processes, tooling, and fixtures for assembly and the capacity to execute project objectives quickly and autonomously utilizing CAD (Catia/SolidWorks). Expertise in prototyping cable assembly/routing (soldering, crimping, overmolding) is a plus as are fabrication skills (welding, machining, etc), however these aren’t required. Additionally experience working with electronics and related systems are desired but not required. Opportunity offers a contract working for an innovative tech organization within a dynamic environment that provides free lunch, parking, and happy hour Fridays, just west of Boston. US Citizen and Green Card work authorization are required. Individual will be eligible to work as W2 Consultant with or without benefits. No 3rd party inquiries please.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship/Green Card Work Authorization Required.
  • Ability to work as W2 employee, meaning no 1099 consultants.
  • 6+ years technical hands-on expertise assembling, troubleshooting, and servicing complex mechanical/electro-mechanical systems, either in robotics, aircraft, motorsports or automotive.
  • A history developing processes, tooling, and fixturing for assemble of prototype builds.
  • Ability to executive project objectives quickly and autonomously using CAD (Catia and SolidWorks).
  • Experience prototyping cable assembly/routing like soldering, crimping, and overholding are desired but not required.
  • Fabrication expertise to include welding and machining are desired but not required.
  • Electronics and electrical systems expertise are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Helping construct, operate, test, and troubleshoot mechanical systems in advanced robotics.
  • Performing hands-on work for prototype designs, dense electromechanically integrations, custom motors, gearboxes, and transmission systems.
  • Troubleshooting individual mechanisms to complete robots while working quickly and adapting to a constantly evolving project with new and shifting technical considerations at once.
  • Building complex mechanical assemblies like custom electric actuators, mechanisms, and structures for robotics systems.
  • Creating test plans and procedures while identifying detailed and nuance mechanical issues and recommending corrective actions to design engineers.
  • Developing, designing, and documenting assembly processes and work techniques.
  • Designing tooling/fixtures for assembly/test utilizing CAD software like Catia or SolidWorks.
  • Designing/implementing modifications for prototype robotics components for improved functionality.
  • Identifying, planning, and executing for contract manufacturing within prototype systems to improve production methods for prototype build volume.
  • Iterating and improving prototype design while collaborating with design engineers to progress designs from initial prototype toward reproducible assemblies within good quality control.
  • Planning lab equipment, tools, and workspace coordination with managers and engineers ensuring the environment and equipment is what’s required to accomplish project goals.
