Community Asphalt Corp is a premier heavy civil contractor, specializing in roadway construction, asphalt paving, and infrastructure development across Florida. As part of OHLA USA’s Southeast Civil Division, we operate in the Miami, West Palm Beach, Vero Beach, and Fort Myers areas.
We are seeking proactive, go-getter Field Engineer Interns for all locations, who are eager to contribute, learn, and grow with our team. Our internship program isn’t just about summer work—it’s a pipeline to full-time careers. This internship is designed for students pursuing a career in civil construction, with the goal of hiring top-performing interns into full-time Field Engineer roles after graduation.
As a Field Engineer Intern, you will be embedded in a project team and involved in the day-to-day operations of active job sites. You will work closely with Project Managers to support the successful execution of projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field Engineers in daily project execution
- Track and verify delivery of materials; inspect for quality and contract compliance
- Help manage subcontractor and material vendor coordination
- Support the preparation and updating of project schedules
- Organize and maintain shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs
- Assist with cost tracking, forecasting, and monthly revenue accruals
- Help prepare monthly pay estimates and process change orders
- Maintain proper documentation to support compliance and audit readiness
- Participate in safety walk-throughs and uphold OHLA USA’s safety culture
- Gain exposure to FDOT standards, roadway plans, traffic control setups, and paving operations
Qualifications
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Strong work ethic and initiative with a proactive attitude—self-starters preferred
- Demonstrated interest in a career in heavy civil construction
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Basic understanding of construction principles and industry terminology (preferred, not required)
