Senior Solution Architect – SAP Global Trade Systems

Moderna Therapeutics

The Role

Joining Moderna offers the unique opportunity to be part of a pioneering team that's revolutionizing medicine through mRNA technology, with a diverse pipeline of development programs across various diseases.

As an employee, you'll be part of a continually growing organization, working alongside exceptional colleagues and strategic partners worldwide, contributing to global health initiatives.

Moderna's commitment to advancing the technological frontier of mRNA medicines ensures a challenging and rewarding career experience, with the potential to make a significant impact on patients' lives worldwide.

Moderna is solidifying its presence within our international business services hub in Warsaw, Poland, a city renowned for its rich scientific and technological heritage. This hub provides critical functions, meeting the growing demand of Moderna’s global business operations. We're inviting professionals from around the world to join our mission and contribute to the future of mRNA medicines.

Moderna is seeking a Senior SAP GTS Solution Architect (E4H) to own and elevate our Global Trade Services (GTS) platform, operating from our Warsaw Digital hub. This pivotal, hands-on position reports into the Digital team and serves as the single point of contact for Global Trade & Compliance. You’ll drive the end-to-end lifecycle of our SAP GTS ecosystem—from roadmap and architecture through build, deployment, and continuous optimization—while partnering with global stakeholders across Commercial, Supply Chain, Finance, and Procurement. With oversight of €3B+ in annual shipments, this role ensures our trade operations remain compliant, automated, and future-ready as we scale our international footprint. You'll also operate in an Agile delivery model and lead integration with critical platforms like S/4 HANA and Ariba, while staying attuned to global regulatory shifts and SAP innovations, including generative AI capabilities.

Here’s What You’ll Do

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Serve as the system owner for SAP GTS E4H, ensuring architectural integrity, configuration accuracy, validation coverage, and round-the-clock operational stability.
  • Lead GTS E4H upgrade cycles: assess, plan, and execute with Basis, Security, and functional teams to deliver zero unplanned downtime post-upgrade.
  • Conduct fit-gap analyses and process assessments, advising on modernization and compliance enhancements in Customs, Risk, and Trade operations.
  • Define and deliver GTS capabilities such as sanctioned-party screening, license and customs management, AES, trade preference, Intrastat, and e-invoicing.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Integrate GTS seamlessly with S/4 HANA (SD, MM, FI, MDG), Ariba, EWM, customs brokers, and government portals; own IDoc/API interface design through go-live.
  • Lead Agile sprints, develop user stories, manage backlog, and deliver shippable increments every two weeks.
  • Own and execute the Digital roadmap for Trade & Compliance, proactively leveraging SAP innovation and automation.
  • Develop SOPs, training material, dashboards, and user guides to maximize adoption and compliance visibility.
  • Translate global regulatory changes into actionable system/process improvements.
  • Track and report KPIs and system risks to executive stakeholders.

The key Moderna Mindsets you’ll need to succeed in the role:

  • “We behave like owners. The solutions we’re building go beyond any job description.”
  • In this sole contributor role, your end-to-end ownership of the SAP GTS landscape—strategy, execution, and continuous improvement—demands a strong ownership mindset. You’ll operate independently but with global impact.
  • “We digitize everywhere possible using the power of code to maximize our impact on patients.”
  • You’ll champion automation and emerging SAP innovations, including opportunities to engage with generative AI, to create frictionless and future-proof global trade processes that directly support Moderna’s mission.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field.
  • 7 + years hands-on SAP experience, including 5 + years focused on SAP GTS/E4H and global trade compliance.
  • 3 + full-cycle SAP GTS or GTS E4H implementations AND at least one hands-on GTS E4H upgrade, with integration to S/4 HANA Order-to-Cash and Logistics Execution.
  • Deep functional knowledge of SD/OTC, LE, and Trade Compliance processes and customizing.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects independently from requirements through go-live in global, multicultural settings.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills; able to engage technical teams and business executives alike.
  • Solid project-management foundation and experience with Agile or hybrid delivery models.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • In-depth expertise across SAP GTS modules: Customs Management, Compliance Management, Risk Management, Legal Control & Embargo, Preference Processing, SPL Screening, and Intrastat/Electronic Compliance Reporting.
  • Mastery of key configurations: export-license structures, document block analysis, technically incomplete checks, HTS/ECCN & trade-class data maintenance, SPL / embargo rules, preference determinations.
  • Hands-on integration experience with customs brokers, freight forwarders, 3PLs, and government interfaces (EU EMCS, US AES, e-invoicing portals).
  • Analytical mindset—comfortable building pivot-table dashboards or leveraging BI tools to surface trade-compliance KPIs and insights.
  • SAP certification(s) in GTS, SD, or Project Management (e.g., PMP, Scrum Master).
  • Experience delivering SAP projects in pharmaceutical, life-science, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Proven ability to influence without authority, drive alignment across time zones, and thrive in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
  • A growth mindset aligned with Moderna’s values—Bold, Relentless, Curious, Collaborative—and a passion for shaping the future of global trade compliance.
