Position Summary
We're embarking on an exciting new journey at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), with our first Data Science internship under the CG Technology department. This is a unique opportunity for an intern to be at the forefront of establishing how we leverage data to drive innovation and efficiency across our legendary visual effects production. What You Need to Know
- The CG Tech Internship is a paid 4 month placement from September to December 2025 with the possibility for extension (up to 8 months).
- This role is considered Hybrid, which means you will work onsite at our Vancouver studio and occasionally from home.
- You will be required to work full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm.
- We do not provide assistance for relocation, housing, transportation, or work authorization for Internships.
- You must be a Canadian Citizen or hold Canadian Permanent Resident status and be residing in British Columbia.
- You must be enrolled in a public, post-secondary school and will return to your studies upon completion of your internship with ILM.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and implement data analysis scripts and tools to extract insights from various datasets.
- Contribute to daily operational tasks related to data quality, data cleaning, and data validation.
- Assist in the creation of dashboards and reports to visualize key metrics and trends.
- Participate in the development of a data science project, which may involve predictive modeling, statistical analysis, or machine learning applications.
- Collaborate with engineers, artists, and production teams to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights.
What We’re Looking For
- Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong proficiency in Python and its data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib, Seaborn).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with diverse personalities.
- Strong time management skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and in team settings with a positive, pro-active attitude.
- Proven experience with data analysis and/or data science projects (e.g., academic projects, personal projects, previous internships).
- Familiarity with SQL for data extraction and manipulation (ElasticSearch, Prometheus is a plus).
- Working knowledge of statistical concepts and data modeling techniques.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) is a plus.
- Knowledge of distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark) or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
