The Automation & Digital Services Field Specialist will perform a diversified range of service and sales activities within the Monitoring & Controls Group. The Field Specialist will focus on installing, programming, troubleshooting, servicing various models of controllers/monitoring devices, creating SCADA connections, training and working with electronic systems within our water transport portfolio.

They will also perform installations and troubleshooting of our cloud-based platforms and our on-premise digital solutions.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

Perform/lead field installation: industrial control, electrical control panels, SCADA systems, VFD’s, PLCs, industry standard communications protocols, and other electronic systems and instrumentation

Provide hands-on technical support for our control panels by commissioning, configuring, retrofitting, installing, new hardware either via phone or onsite

Read and follow Electrical Schematics to determine how to interface automation and electrical components.

Field modifications to existing control panels to accommodate Xylem Monitoring & Controls equipment to an exemplary standard.

Mark up schematics (for as built drawings) with field modifications for engineering updates

Field Troubleshooting: Provide onsite support to resolve Xylem customer controls issues. Using multimeter, hand tools, and basic to mid-level electrical theory, diagnose and resolve control and instrumentation issues at the customer’s site

Software skills/knowledge associated with the development and programming of SCADA systems.

Lead site operators to make sure all the new control philosophy (Automation Logic) is tested and working according with Scope of Work, but also do fine tuning for operation variables our customer need for their particular application.

Conduct Training Seminars: Perform utility operator training for small to large groups of people both on and off the customers site for ADS equipment. Utilize multimedia tools and product demonstrations to deliver adequate training to both customers and fellow service staff to enable them to take ownership of their Xylem A&DS products/services. Training might be conducted remotely thru video-conference software platforms.

Interface with end-users (in some cases with reps and distributors) handling service problems and start-ups either by phone or on-site visit. Assist office personnel with product specifications as required.

Assure compliance with all established personnel policies and procedures.

General Documentation: Create or edit procedures and best practices related to M&C start-up, installation, troubleshooting, configuration, etc. Perform the required administrative tasks associated with the M&C Service Specialist position (i.e. product improvement requests, product issues notifications, trip reports, customer follow-up communications, time sheets, travel authorizations requests and general filing/ recorded keeping on customer support issues)

Increase M&C Service Knowledge: Identify and help develop additional M&C service support talent from within the existing US Sales company service groups. Evaluate existing service personnel, establish training plans, assist/conduct classroom training and hands-on experience training, and help perform yearly capability audits.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

BS Degree in Electrical Engineering (Preferred) or equivalent work experience

Prefer 5+ years’ experience in industrial controls and automation applications with a working knowledge of electrical control panels, SCADA Systems, VFD’s, PLCs, industry standard communications protocols, and other electronic systems and instrumentation

Prefer 2+ years Electrical Controls technical training or equivalent

  • Valid drivers license

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong leadership, supervisory, prioritization and communication skills (written and verbal) are necessary to help define, develop and enforce initiatives.

Knowledge of Treatment around disinfection (UV, Ozone), aeration, and filtration

Proficiency with computer us: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.

Frequently required to communicate orally.

Ability to use hands and fingers dexterously to operate field equipment.

Must occasionally lift/ transport up to 50 pounds.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Work Environment

Office: Standard office equipment; work usually performed in an office setting free from any disagreeable elements.

Shop, Field or Customer location: May work around pipes, valves, electrical equipment and operating machinery, etc, such as commonly found around manufacturing facilities, construction sites and drinking water/wastewater treatment plants.

Travel requirement:

Up to 75% overnight travel is required (Rental Vehicle or Air)

Job postings will include a wide salary range, with each role's pay falling within that range. The starting salary is based on factors such as skills, experience, location, and market conditions.

$72,300.00 - $130,100.00
