Position Information

TxDOT's Waco District is looking for a Maintenance Support Tech II-IV, based out of our McLennan Maintenance Office. This position performs administrative support-related work in a maintenance office. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Maintenance Support Tech II: A15 ($38,976.00-$58,045.00/yearly)

Maintenance Support Tech III: A17 ($42,976.00 - $64,469.00/yearly)

Maintenance Support Tech IV: A19 ($48,244.00-$76,028.00/yearly)

Position Description

Performs administrative support-related work in a maintenance office or district headquarters. Work requires contact with high-level managers, executives, governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:

Maintenance Support Tech II:

  • Maintains materials inventory
  • Answers the telephone, evaluates requests, answers questions, routes messages, and/or serves as receptionist or front desk assistant
  • Assists district personnel with annual inventory of supplies, stockpiles and minor equipment
  • Maintains radio contact with field units; responds to assists with emergency situations as required
  • Prepares and distributes correspondence
  • Processes and receipts and invoices for payment

Maintenance Support Tech III:

In addition to the above:

  • Creates and maintains related activity logs, files, and reports on services
  • Evaluates and researches information to solve customer service problems
  • Inputs and maintains daily production reports and compiles monthly reports for manager
  • Coordinates with district personnel with annual inventory of supplies, stockpiles and minor equipment
  • Edits correspondence, reports, forms, and documents for proper format, spelling, grammar, punctuation, typographical errors, syntax, style, sentence structure, content, and clarity
  • Maintains calendars for department personnel to include scheduling meetings, coordinating and making appointments, and travel arrangements
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Maintenance Support Tech IV:

In addition to the above:

  • Composes and prepares correspondence and applicable recurring or special one-time reports and/or confidential and sensitive communications
  • Provides information and assistance pertaining to procedures, laws, rules and/or regulations; refers customers to appropriate source for problems or questions; processes special applications and reports
  • Provides technical assistance to others in using personal computer and/or software applications
  • Conducts monthly spot inventories, verifies inventory findings, reconciles and coordinates with Business Services on adjustments needed
  • Provides assistance to the public

Minimum Qualifications:

Maintenance Support Tech II:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: 1 year in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Maintenance Support Tech III:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: 3 years in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Maintenance Support Tech IV:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: 4 years in administrative or clerical support, customer service, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Repetitive Motion- substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
