Amwins Group, Inc. is seeking an adaptable, driven and detail-oriented individual to join our Client Services Team as a Surplus Lines Tax Manager.

Amwins also offers value-added services to support some of these products, including product development, underwriting, premium and claims administration and actuarial services.

  • The Surplus Lines Tax Manager will be responsible for overseeing a team of surplus lines tax specialists including hiring, managing and developing tax filing employees, collaboration with other teams and departments, and utilizing ongoing knowledge of surplus lines tax laws, filing and reporting requirements in the various states to ensure deadlines are met accurately and timely.

Must be flexible, have great attention to detail and problem-solving skills, and assist in building best practices for the future.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of professionals to ensure accurate, timely filings in accordance with state requirements; ability to work in a fast-paced environment with large volume and hard deadlines
  • Assess hiring needs, interview and onboard new employees and provide on-the-job training
  • Review and update processes to gain efficiencies while maintaining quality and compliance with states’ specific requirements
  • Review and maintain training materials / standard operating procedures
  • Manage incoming work and productivity to ensure expected service levels are met
  • Resolve complex problems and drive decisions by utilizing data available across the firm
  • Ensure the team meets expectations by evaluating performance and working individually with employees to create a positive work environment and opportunities for growth
  • Communicate effectively and build positive working relationships within the team as well as all levels throughout the organization
  • Manage external state audits and communication with various states, as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or equivalent work experience
  • 3 years experience in surplus lines compliance or filing/reporting tax required
  • 2 years of experience in people management required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)
  • Flexible, people-oriented, and able to lead in a team environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to execute at high quality on assigned tasks within stipulated timelines
  • Ability to travel
