Amwins Group, Inc. is seeking an adaptable, driven and detail-oriented individual to join our Client Services Team as a Surplus Lines Tax Operations Specialist.

Amwins Group, Inc., has been a leader in the wholesale insurance industry since its formation in 1998. The firm is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina with over 120 locations worldwide. It has expertise across a diversified mix of property, casualty, and group benefits products. Amwins also offers value-added services to support some of these products, including product development, underwriting, premium and claims administration and actuarial services.

  • The Surplus Lines Tax Operations Specialist will work directly with the Vice President Surplus Lines and be responsible for identifying improvement opportunities, executing the opportunities, and documenting results to support business decisions. The Operations Specialist will maintain and monitor team objectives and ensure that projects are organized and delivered within specified timelines. They will be responsible for documenting best practices and escalation pathways that can be leveraged in training for the team. The expected results for success in this role are consistent processes being executed across the team, decreased filing-related fines and issues, expansion of technology automation, and an action plan to create a long-term team capable of scaling with growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify improvement opportunities to gain efficiencies while maintaining quality and compliance with states’ specific requirements
  • Develop, review and maintain training materials / standard operating procedures
  • Assist and lead training sessions with the team
  • Refine data, metrics and reporting needs, generate reports and analyze data to support business decisions
  • Communicate effectively and build positive working relationships within the team as well as at all levels throughout the organization
  • Facilitate and update progress of team measurable objectives that support company initiatives
  • Resolve complex problems and drive decisions by utilizing data available across the firm
  • Identify best practices for the teams including reporting metrics, expectation development and management, and meeting cadence
  • Partner closely with the tax technology team to develop an ongoing roadmap for automation, including developing and executing test cases
  • Partner with the Vice President to develop a career development plan for team members
  • Coordinate all necessary parties to ensure projects are executed timely and meet expectations; manage prioritization and monitor sprint schedules
  • Document decisions, next steps, and action items and communicate updates to stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in surplus lines compliance or filing/reporting tax
  • 2 years of experience in an operations role
  • Applied strong MS 365 skills including Outlook, Excel, Word and Teams
  • Experience working with Azure and Power BI is a plus
  • Flexible, people-oriented, and able to thrive in a team environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated advanced skills and experience communicating action plans within various levels of internal stakeholders
  • Ability to execute at high-quality on assigned tasks within specified timelines
  • Ability to travel, if needed
