Position Description

The Human Resources Division of Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) has two (2) exciting Short-Term (11-month) Temporary Assistant Management Systems Analysts (Asst MSA) to support SPU's Payroll Section. These temporary assignments will focus on reviewing and analyzing payroll related ticketing issues to identify patterns or recurring discrepancies, impacting specific work groups and employees.

This Short-Term Temporary opportunity will last up to 11-months in duration and is open to all qualified candidates.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities of the Short-Term Temp Assistant Management Systems Analyst:

  • Proactively investigate and resolve payroll issues at the lowest level possible, utilizing available resources and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate resolution before initiating escalation.
  • Manage payroll tickets between Seattle IT and SPU ticketing systems. Identify and resolve duplicate tickets, ensuring proper prioritization from old to newest tickets.
  • Use analytical tools to detect trends and patterns in payroll discrepancies determining areas of focus for corrective action.
  • Work closely with HR, Payroll and other key departments to gain insights into the root causes of discrepancies and determine the most effective corrective action.
  • Based on identified trends, propose training initiatives to address areas where payroll discrepancies are frequent, ensuring proper understanding and adherence to payroll procedures.
  • Transform various reports into actionable and functional reports that Payroll staff can utilize for auditing bi-weekly payroll processing.

Qualifications

Experience: Two years of course work in business or public administration, finance, computer science or a related field

Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a payroll office setting, preferably for a large organization
  • Familiarity with Workday, or a similar HRIS/Payroll system

The full salary range for this position is $40.00 per hour - $46.63 per hour.

  • Temporary employees will start at Step 1 of this progressive range, at $40.00 per hour.

Workplace Environment (*Telework Expectation):

This position is a hybrid schedule between 2 days at home and 3 days in-office, and specific schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
