Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and technically strong Project Development Leader to join our growing Energy Services (SBT/ESCO/DER) team. Based in New Jersey, New York, or Atlanta, this individual will lead the end-to-end development of energy efficiency, infrastructure modernization, and decarbonization projects for federal, institutional, commercial & industrial, and public sector clients.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in project scoping, customer engagement, financial modeling, and translating sustainability goals into actionable technical solutions. Experience with MUSH and/or Federal markets is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Project Identification & Customer Engagement:

  • Lead discovery and assessment efforts to identify energy savings opportunities and infrastructure needs.
  • Support Sales & Engineering to conduct site audits, engage with client stakeholders, and understand organizational goals (cost savings, resiliency, emissions).
  • Build strong relationships with decision-makers at municipalities, universities, school districts, hospitals, and large enterprises.

Solution Design & Technical Development:

  • Develop comprehensive scopes of work for energy conservation measures (ECMs) including HVAC, lighting, controls, building automation, renewables, and electrification.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, construction, and measurement & verification (M&V) teams to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with client objectives.
  • Coordinate subcontractor and vendor input, obtain cost estimates, during project conceptualization, pricing and proposal to customer.
  • Responsible for all project estimates and finals costs going to customer.

Financial Modeling & Proposal Development:

  • Build energy savings models and cash flow analyses for Energy Performance Contracts (EPCs), Utility Energy Service Contracts (UESCs), Energy as a Service (EaaS) and traditional CapEx projects.
  • Work closely with finance teams to assess funding mechanisms including rebates, grants, utility incentives, tax equity, and PPA structures.
  • Lead proposal development, customer presentations, and support contract negotiations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the bridge between sales, engineering, operations and M&V throughout the project development lifecycle.
  • Support sales and account teams in early-stage strategy development and customer qualification.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, tools, and best practices for project development.

The annual base salary range for this position in New Jersey and most major metropolitan areas in New York is $ 215,000 - $ 269,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in ESCO or energy services project development, with a proven track record of closing complex projects.
  • Deep knowledge of building systems, ECMs, and utility rate structures.
  • Proficient in energy modeling tools (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPro, Excel-based calculators).
  • Understanding of public sector contracting models (e.g., ESPC, UESC, design-build) and incentives (e.g., NYSERDA, NJCEP, Georgia Power programs).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with experience managing external stakeholders and internal teams.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Production, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Science, or related technical field (Master’s or MBA a plus).
  • Experience working in the MUSH market or Federal energy contracts.
  • Certifications such as CEM (Certified Energy Manager), LEED AP, or PMP.
  • Familiarity with regional energy codes, utility incentive programs, and local decarbonization policies.
  • Passion for sustainable energy and client-focused innovation.
