Position Overview:

This position will provide comprehensive engineering technical support to Proterra's Manufacturing Manager, Manufacturing Controls Engineering Manager, Manufacturing Test Engineer, and other site leadership team members. This position will be responsible for production support on automation controls, production testing, and electrical configuration. The Associate Controls Engineer is responsible for working with engineering and operations teams to develop and tune processes as well as build new equipment to specification. The role will include collaboration with both internal and external partners, taking on this hands-on role.

About the Role – You will:

  • Maintains and upholds high safety standards.
  • Support the Manufacturing Engineering team in building complex mechanical and electrical assemblies.
  • Support installation, troubleshooting, and PLC/Robotic programming on new or re-built machines.
  • Integrate new VFDs, sensors, actuators, and communication protocols to enhance robotic performance Implement and maintain tests that ensure quality and functionality of battery packs Prepare and deliver build documentation to the production floor under strict deadlines. Complete a final report on all projects and ensure that this is circulated to the key stakeholders Troubleshoot battery production equipment when necessary
  • Focus on continuous improvement implementation in your area of responsibility
  • Drive and implement continuous improvement ideas.
  • Participate in the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and validate electricity and automation requirements.
  • Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge of controls and standard practices
  • Provide technical assistance to the manufacturing and maintenance functions to solve chronic or complex problems.

  • This position will be part of the Greer-based Battery Manufacturing Engineering Team
  • You will report to the Controls Engineering Manager and collaborate with other Manufacturing Engineering team members.

Your Experience Includes:

  • BS Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalent.
  • 0-1 years of experience within the manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Proficient in Rockwell PLC programming using Studio 5000 and Structured Text
  • Industrial HMI design using programs such as FactoryTalk View Studio and SCADA Ignition (Perspective & Vision) is a strong plus.
  • Industrial software integration of electrical systems, sensors, pneumatics/hydraulics, including how to safely check out these interdisciplinary systems prior to production implementation.
  • Fanuc Robotics Programming experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience with IO-Link
  • Experience with manufacturing and/or testing EVS is a plus
  • Knowledge of electrical schematic and prints with experience in AutoCAD
  • Experience navigating through electrical codes, particularly NFPA (NEC) and local regulations

  • Frequent walk, work at computer for extended periods of time. Light to moderate travel.
