Job Description

At Wise, we're not just developing a product; we're redefining the financial landscape. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be at the heart of this transformation, entrusted with complex, critical tasks that extend across the breadth of our technological endeavours.

Why This Role Matters:

You will be joining our Compute team, a core component of our technological fabric. This team's mission is critical: to establish a robust, scalable platform that enables our engineers across the globe to deploy and manage services efficiently. Our platform is designed to handle immense scale and complexity, ensuring that millions of users experience seamless financial transactions. Your work will be pivotal in evolving this platform to new heights, leveraging advanced technologies and methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect and Enhance Our Platform: You will take ownership of significant system components, designing and implementing scalable solutions that handle complex operational loads with high reliability and security.
• Drive Automation and Efficiency: Innovate and implement cutting-edge automation solutions at both the infrastructure (AWS) and application levels, reducing manual overhead, accelerating deployment cycles, and increasing system resilience.
• Holistic System Outlook: Assess the ecosystem as a whole to identify technological and systemic improvements. Your strategic oversight will help in preemptively addressing potential scalability and reliability issues before they impact our services.
• Active Collaboration and Leadership: While you will be deeply involved in hands-on technical work, your role also entails leading projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams to share knowledge, mentor peers, and refine our engineering practices.
• Embrace and Extend Cloud-Native Practices: With ongoing investments in AWS and Kubernetes, you will have the opportunity to lead initiatives that expand our capabilities in the cloud-native landscape, from developing Kubernetes operators to enhancing our service mesh infrastructure.

What will you be working on?

• Help scale, connect and secure our platform infrastructure.
• Automate our core platform components either at the AWS or Application level.
• Working hands-on in our Compute team. We are looking for keen engineers who want to build a first-class platform for product engineers in Wise, streamlining how fast an idea can be delivered and scaled into production.
• We are investing in building cloud native applications backed by AWS as well as scaling our use of Kubernetes, so curiosity and learning is key.

What do you need?

We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. So if you have some of those listed below and are eager to learn more we do want to hear from you!

• Experience coding in GoLang and interacting/building API’s
• Experience in building highly reliable, scalable, secure, automated cloud native platforms (preferably on AWS)
• Production experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies (Kubernetes)

Nice to haves:

• Solid working knowledge of systems and software engineering fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, OO)
• Good sysadmin skills (Linux, debugging issues with disk, networking, OS performance etc)
• Experience with infrastructure as code and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, etc)
