The power utility market is undergoing rapid and dramatic changes, with drivers such as artificial intelligence and the electrification of infrastructure expected to create exponential load growth for power utilities across North America. In response, Jacobs is expanding its Energy & Power Solutions team to help tackle the complexities of grid modernization to deliver a cleaner and more secure energy future.

We are seeking professional candidates with gas turbine or thermal generation power plant knowledge and experience to lead power generation projects for electric power utility clients. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide engineering and consulting services for electric utility clients seeking to develop new power generation resources including new gas fired simple or combined cycle power plant facilities. You’ll be expected to possess highly collaborative and sophisticated communication and problem-solving skills. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple project stakeholders to overcome project challenges and advocate for successful project completion, on time and on budget. Experience in consulting, design, design management and project management will be highly regarded, as will experience in Owner’s Engineer roles or contract management, and advisory (technical advisor/due diligence) roles as well as strategic project development experience. Office based, remote or hybrid positions are available.

Here's what you'll need

  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • At least 8 years of design, consulting, construction, commissioning and/or operations experience in the power generation market
  • Experience in overseeing execution of thermal generation power plant projects through various phases of development from planning to commercial operation.
  • Proven ability to engage and develop strong working relationships with both clients, EPC contractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to provide advisory services to ensure compliance to project specifications, engineering codes, and best engineering practices.
  • Proven ability to coordinate inter-disciplinary engineering deliverables such as plans, manuals, reports, procedures, calculations, specifications, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, drawings, records, and other relevant documents related to a thermal generation power plant.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills

Other highly regarded qualifications include:

  • Cogeneration or combined heat and power system experience
  • Design, construction, operation or maintenance of gas turbine power plants or any other thermal generation power plants
  • Professional engineering license

The base salary range for this position is $129,400.00 to $175,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
