Solar Turbines Incorporated, the leading designer and manufacturer of Industrial Gas Turbines in the 1 to 24 MW size range, has exciting opportunities for recent graduates to join our world-class team of turbomachinery professionals as we work together to develop new product capability aimed at reducing emissions, improving efficiency, and burning low-to-zero carbon fuels.

As a Rotordynamics Early Talent Rotation Engineer, you will work with and get exposure to the design, manufacture, testing, and troubleshooting of gas turbine rotors and bearings. You will collaborate with a team to support rotor and bearing systems, as well as related engine structures and control systems. Upon completion of the program, you will be placed in the rotordynamics team. Each program consists of multiple rotations of up to six months each in departments such as:

  • Mechanical Design
  • Combustion
  • Controls Systems
  • Heat Transfer and Secondary Flow
  • Compressor Aerodynamics
  • Turbine Aerodynamics
  • Performance
  • Experimental Product Development and Test
  • Condition Based Engineering
  • Materials and Processes
  • Aftermarket Engineering
  • Customer Services

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have obtained or will obtain a minimum Masters degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering discipline.
  • Mechanical Engineering relevant course work in Engineering dynamics, vibration, and mechanical systems
  • Overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or higher.
  • Less than one year of relevant industry experience.
  • Technical knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
  • Must be able and eager to relocate to San Diego, CA.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship/work or research experience (specific experience with rig, bearings, or vibration data preferred)
  • Understanding of vibration measurement concepts and instrumentation
  • Familiarity with solid modeling software
  • Ability to perform Concept and/or Detail designs
  • Familiarity with FEA based rotordynamic or structural modeling and bearing codes
  • Knowledge with vibration data acquisition systems
  • Knowledge using finite element analysis for mechanical components

Compensation & Benefits:

Base salary for this role ranges from $ 71,026.00, to $106,538.00. Actual salary will be based on experience. The total rewards package, beyond base salary includes:
