What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application: 

This position is expected to start around August or September 2025 and continue through the Fall term (ending approximately December 2025) or continuing into Winter/Spring 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships. 

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year. 

About the team: 

The Power Electronics team is looking for an Embedded Engineering Intern to develop, verify, and validate embedded firmware for power electronics and motor controls, enabling our vehicles to drive. In this role, you will work closely with the Hardware and Controls teams to architect, implement, test, and deploy safety-critical software on next generation products and existing systems.

You will use your creativity to solve some of the most challenging problems in the embedded software space and change the way the world produces electric vehicles and delivers energy. 

What You’ll Do

• Development of real-time embedded software that implements control and safety management of the Drive Inverter 
• Develop automated tests to ensure high quality software releases and accurate functionality 
• Be involved in the full firmware development and deployment life cycle; from concept through integration, test, and release to millions of customer vehicles 
• Work closely with the hardware and control teams to specify hardware actuation and sensing requirements 
• Develop and optimize firmware for motor controls and power electronics 

What You’ll Bring

• Currently working towards a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field of study with a graduation date between December 2025 - December 2026 
• Proficiency in C and python 
• Experience with reading electrical schematics and understanding circuit behavior 
• Knowledge of microcontroller peripherals such as ADC, GPIO, PWM and SPI 
• Familiarity with control loops and PID controllers 
• Knowledge of version control (Git) and continuous integration (Jenkins) preferred 
• Familiarity with Hazard and Risk Assessment (HARA) and/or Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) preferred

Expected Compensation

$36.06 - $56.12 + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
