As an Internal connection (Cleats & Leads) Design Engineer at our new Siemens Energy Power Transformers Factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, you will be responsible for preparing Cleats & Leads (Internal connection) design of Power transformers, achieving design innovations, and optimizing end products in compliance with Siemens Energy design rules, quality standards, cost position, and time schedule.

This role will be based at our new factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, and will initially coincide with the factory’s construction. During this phase, we will focus on developing our processes, refining our offerings, and collaborating closely with a high-performance team. This will involve all aspects of the commercial setup to ensure we are well-prepared to meet the needs of our customers effectively when factory operations start.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Perform mechanical design, development and analysis of the Cleats & Leads (Internal connection) design of Large Power/Auto/Generator transformers (up to 500MVA, 550kV) and its sub-assemblies and components.
  • Use 2D and 3D CAD software to model designs and individual parts to support the generation of engineering drawings and bills of material.
  • Effectively communicate among cross functional teams and participate in various internal and external technical forums.
  • Extend support for the development of global design rules & R&D efforts on the need basis.
  • Collaborate with other departments like electrical design, manufacturing, Quality, testing & purchase departments on technical topics related to Leads design.

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's, master’s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years working experience as an internal connection (cleats and leads) design engineer.
  • In depth knowledge and experience of preparation of internal layout, electrical clearances, magnetic distances, routing of leads inside tank, design of supports, coordinating lead exits with winding assembly.
  • Able to apply electrostatic/dielectric design concepts for high voltage leads and electromagnetic concepts for high current leads.
  • Knowledge of components used in internal connections like cables, bus-bars, HV lead exits, terminals, insulation supports, insulation papers, bushings, tap changers etc.
  • Basic knowledge of special processes like crimping and brazing
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced user of 3D CAD software (eg. CREO/PROe/Inventor/UG), PDM Link/Teamcentre, 2D CAD (eg. AUTOCAD), advanced dielectric (high voltage) FEM simulations (eg. ELECTRO, CST Studio, Infolytica) and electromagnetic FEM simulations (eg. MagNET, FEMM)
  • If not already located in or around the Charlotte, NC area, the selected candidate must be willing to relocate.
