As a Tanks & Externals Design Engineer at our new Siemens Energy Power Transformers Factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, you will play a crucial role in the mechanical design of tanks and externals for power transformers. Your responsibilities will include preparing innovative and optimized designs that adhere to Siemens Energy's design rules, quality standards, cost efficiency, and time schedules. Additionally, you will handle the detailed mechanical design for order execution and create customer documents and drawings for tanks and externals. 

This role will be based at our new factory in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, and will initially coincide with the factory’s construction. During this phase, we will focus on developing our processes, refining our offerings, and collaborating closely with a high-performance team. This will involve all aspects of the commercial setup to ensure we are well-prepared to meet the needs of our customers effectively when factory operations start.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Perform mechanical design, development and analysis of the tank & components like stiffeners, cover and external components like coolers, conservator, pipe work, turrets, external conduit cabling etc. Prepare master layout in collaboration with electrical, leads and clamping designers.
  • Use 2D and 3D CAD software to model designs and individual parts to support the generation of engineering drawings and prepare bills of material. Understand customer specifications and project requirements and prepare customer documentation like general outline, foundation, shipping/transport, valve schedule, etc.
  • Prepare Technical Specifications & order tanking components like fans, pumps, radiators, valves, accessories, hardware etc.
  • Learn transformer design rules and use of transformer design calculation tools related to tank and other structural parts
  • Collaborate on R&D projects for further product improvements.
  • Perform mechanical calculations like stiffener, lifting, center of gravity, oil & weights etc. and sizing/selecting of accessories like MOG, fan, pumps, terminals, cable routing, breather, valves, bellows etc.
  • Perform advanced calculations like structural, seismic (eg. using ANSYS, CREO simulate)

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's, master’s degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years working experience as a tank design engineer, preferably in medium or large Power Transformers.
  • Strong conceptual knowledge and working experience in structural steel parts.
  • Familiar with the American & international standards (eg. IEEE, ANSI, IEC) related to transformer tanks, tank components, and materials.
  • User of 3D CAD software (eg. CREO/PROe/Inventor), PDM Link or Teamcentre, 2D CAD (eg. AUTOCAD) and software tools to create Bill of materials eg. SAP
  • Detailed knowledge of materials and components related to tank and externals
  • Experience with SAP is preferred.
  • If not already located in or around the Charlotte, NC area, the selected candidate must be willing to relocate.
