The Joint Air Delivery Test And Evaluation Unit (JADTEU) delivers responsive, agile, and effective support to operations by designing solutions for:
Aerial Delivery Systems and their components.
Ancillary Equipment for use within Stressed Platforms.
Ancillary Equipment for use within helicopter underslung loads.
Interface equipment used within aircraft tie-down schemes.
Ancillary equipment for Helicopter abseiling and fast roping equipment.
Mechanical installation fittings supporting the In-Service Design Changes for Military Aircraft.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
As an Engineering Designer, you will work in close support of JADTEU’s Trials Management Officers (TMOs) using CAD software to design equipment enabling mechanical/structural solutions and produce engineering drawings to facilitate manufacture in support of JADTEU trials.
As an Engineering Designer, you will be responsible to Engineering Design Office (EDO) Manager for:
1. The production of design, engineering, and scheme drawings in support of JADTEU trials activity in accordance with (iaw) DEF STAN 05-10.
2. The production of design calculations in support of prototype design verification iaw MAA RA5850.
3. The attainment and maintenance of a high proficiency on IT, tools, and equipment within the EDO.
4. Liaison with TMOs, Eng personnel and other connected parties with assigned tasks.
5. The maintenance of Design files to provide an audit in order to issue Form 100A Certificate of design iaw UKMAA DAOS 111.
6. The attendance of meetings, live trials and flying trials to provide support and collect data. Including short term visits overseas when required.
7. Checking fellow designers engineering drawings as required iaw JADTEU QM Part 2 Eng WI 1.08.
Desirable
Knowledge of aircraft structures and basic stress calculations
Previous experience within an Engineering Design Office
Working knowledge of SOLIDWORKS CAD software, 3D printing, and 3D scanning
Level 5 HNC/D in Mechanical/Production or Aeronautical Engineering or Equivalent
You should be able to think conceptually and translate design requirements into viable technical solutions.
The job requires good team working skills as well as the ability to work independently to a high standard

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
