The Joint Air Delivery Test and Evaluation Unit is a unique unit within defence, the activities of which are anything but routine. The Trials Support Engineer’s (TSE) post forms part of the JADTEU Headquarters’ senior staff, reporting directly to the Commanding Officer.
The TSE role is pivotal in supporting multiple Test and Evaluation (T&E) teams responsible for both FW and RW air transportation domains, enabling the delivery of personnel by parachute, and of machines and materiel as internal aircraft loads, underslung helicopter loads and loads delivered by parachute. As part of the Air and Space Warfare Centre (ASWC), JADTEU is recognised as the sole authority to conduct this activity through design assurance and physical evaluation of equipment and techniques.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
The role involves evaluating and analysing compliance with relevant Military Aviation Authority policies/regulations and associated Air Publications, having expertise and knowledge of the Defence Air Environment with an ability to deal with demanding issues from across all three services, maintaining the highest standards whilst exercising sound judgement with the provision of assured airworthiness advice and safety compliance, will be crucial in guiding and supporting colleagues at JADTEU and across the department.
Responsibilities
You will have qualifications and experience in military aerospace engineering and the conduct of trials in the Defence aviation environment. JADTEU conducts many of its trials, working alongside partners from MOD, QinetiQ and wider industry, so you will have excellent communication skills and stakeholder management. As a Senior Executive Officer, you will have the qualities needed to mentor and develop military and civil service personnel across a wide range of ranks/grades and experience level.
Graduate of ETPS (or equivalent) FTE training OR AeroSystems Course. We welcome applicants with alternative skills and/or experience.

Membership of a Professional Engineering institution, having attained (or on a clear path) to Chartered Engineer, or skills and experience that would allow you to attain such a membership.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
