What you'll do

We are seeking a Systems Test Engineer to join our team in Duluth, GA! Viasat's fast paced Product Test Engineering team crafts test solutions for vertically integrated products and services. Our solutions vary across RF and microwave technologies, power and digital circuitry, peripheral interfaces such as GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi, and software, firmware, and certificate configuration management. Projects support lab design verification, integration, and characterization and factory production tests. We support everything from chips to satellites!

The day-to-day

  • Gain a deep understanding of our products needing tests, including specifications, designs, parts, and functions.
  • Collaborate with product design teams and establish relationships to influence product, hardware, and software designs to support robust and efficient testing solutions.
  • Work with the product design, quality, and operations teams to develop and maintain Systems Engineering documents for product testing including Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM), Test Requirements Database, and Verification and Validation planning and execution.
  • Lead Test Process System Requirements Reviews (SRR) and Design Reviews (PDR/CDR).
  • Prepare Test Plans, Procedures, and Stakeholder Needs to guide the effort to develop and build custom test hardware and automation using company and industry standards.
  • Shepherd test system deployment from hardware/software integration, to use in design verification, to full-rate production. Train partners in its use across the globe.
  • Champion feedback from key players to improve product designs, deployed test systems, and test processes.
  • Prepare engineering trade studies and use problem solving to support decision making to adapt to uncertainty, risks and opportunities.
  • Present creative ideas, informative status updates, thoughtful trade-offs, constructive reviews, and improved process implementations to Program Management and Leadership.

What you'll need

  • 8+ years of experience developing testable products, supporting them across the product lifecycle, and working with new development and sustainment of manual to fully automated product test systems in a production environment.
  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, RF Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with RF systems design and evaluation.
  • Technical leadership experience leading or mentoring others
  • Solid understanding of both the technical and process aspects of product design and able to evaluate products using documents describing their design and function.
  • Domain expert influencing teams to use design-for-test (DFT) strategies, methods, and tools for validation of product function, performance, and reliability.
  • Background in crafting test requirements, test plans, test cases and methodologies, and test documentation for manufacturing that guide system development.
  • Experience improving technical design documentation including specifications, schematics, and wire lists through redlining and collaboration with designers.
  • Ability to view and quickly comprehend industry standard computer languages to support collaboration with software automation engineers.
  • Ready to use a variety of lab equipment like oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power supplies, and boundary scan to evaluate and help fix systems.
  • Ability to work out of our office in Duluth, GA
  • Up to 10% travel.
  • US citizenship required

What will help you on the job

  • Experience in product test development for radio frequency (RF) products and antenna systems
  • Experience with debugging and fixing Linux-based products.
  • Testing satellite communication products using industry test standards and methods.
  • Use of embedded code in products as a tool to support test system environments.
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, TestStand, and Object-Oriented Programming.
  • Experience with networking, OSI model, and L2/L3 technologies like MAC and TCP/IP.
  • Working with large-volume data analysis and interpretation: Pandas, SQL, Grafana or similar.

This role is considered a Safety-Sensitive position and requires participation in Viasat’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Program. This includes successful completion of any program requirements including a pre-employment drug screening.

Salary range

$115,500.00 - $164,500.00 / annually.

For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $143,000.00- $194,000.00/ annually
