The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Serving the people of Southwestern Alaska, the Yukon-Kuskokwim Hospital is a 50-bed general acute care medical facility. Fully accredited by The Joint Commission, services include adult med/surg, pediatrics, obstetrics, emergency room, as well as outpatient family medicine clinics, pharmacy, lab, and imaging. 

Position Summary: The Senior Virtualization Engineer leads and works alongside of the Virtualization Engineer(s) and Network Engineer(s). They research, explore and test new virtualization features and functionality offered by VMware. Collaborate with team members to develop and test implementations of these features and functions. Assist escalating critical issues as needed. Develop scripts & queries to validate functionality and security of all systems and performance metrics. Develop automated procedures to deploy virtualization infrastructure with minimal intervention and time to deploy. Provide performance monitoring, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and the resolution of system issues. Produce and present documentation of standard operating procedures for employees related to virtualization products, and solutions to new or unknown issues.

Provide Tier III support. Responsible for handling the most difficult or advanced problems using expert level troubleshooting and analysis methods. Responsible for assisting both Tier I and Tier II personnel and the research & development

Position Qualifications:

  • An Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Technology and Systems Management preferred. A Bachelor degree in a technical discipline or qualifying experience preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience working with virtualization technologies such as VMwareExperience in PowerShell scripting
  • Excellent knowledge about VMware management tools (vCenter, vRealize Operations, VMware Configuration Manager)
  • Knowledge in conducting performance analysis for both the ESX host and their guests in the areas of CPU, Memory and I/O utilization.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Systems Administration role (Microsoft, Linux or VMware) 
  • Strong understanding of Internet/IP related technologies including, but not limited to, routing, switching and sub-netting.
  • Understanding of core ISP technologies such as DNS, SMTP, HTTP/S.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with Linux system management.
  • Backup and backup related technology experience, with EMC Networker or CommVault being preferred
  • Experience with Windows 2008/2012 Active Directory environments
  • Experience with experience with SharePoint 2007 or higher and Exchange 2010 or higher
  • Experience working with SAN technologies, i.e., iSCSI, Fiber Channel and FCoIP
  • Experience with load balancing technologies such as KEMP
  • Experience with database technologies such as MS SQL, MySQL or Oracle
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – able to explain complex concepts to a wide variety of individuals with varying technical skills
  • Required:
  • CompTIA\SNIA Storage+, CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Security+
  • Valid VCP-DCV (VMware Certified Professional Datacenter)
  • Valid VCP-DTM (VMware Certified Professional Desktop and Mobility)
  • Preferred:
  • Microsoft MCP (MCSA or Higher)
  • Cisco Certifications (CCENT or above)
  • Certification in Linux
  • Certification in other virtualization technologies (Citrix and/or Hyper-V)
  • Cloud based Technologies
  • Minimal supervisory duties of Virtualization Engineer and Associate but not limited to exemption.
